I have a Gateway C-140XL that I adore; I've had it for 14.5 months now and it's been perfect for me . . . until it suddenly stopped recognizing pen input. No hovering, no clicking, nothing.
I fear the problem is with internal hardware because:
1.) The same pen works perfectly on my colleague's tablet PC.
2.) I have a dual boot operating system with both Windows Vista and Arch Linux. Previously, pen input was recognized by both. Now it is recognized by neither.
There was no decline in quality prior to the sudden loss of functionality. I just went to write one day and got nothing. Nor was the computer dropped, dunked, or otherwise mistreated.
I've tried reinstalling the Windows Wacom driver, to no avail. I haven't done much investigation yet in Arch, except to establish that the pen wasn't working.
My original Gateway warranty was only for a year, but my credit card has a program where it doubles the warranty length for any product I purchase with it. Until I figure out the logistics of this, though, Gateway support won't talk to me.
Anyone have any ideas? Assistance would be very much appreciated, as sudden loss is a little traumatic for someone so attached to her tablet . . .
