Hello: I have recently purchased a used Fujitsu Stylistic LT P-600 tablet. It was running Windows 2K Pro but the OS was removed prior to the sale. I am attempting to re-install an OEM version of 2K Pro and use the licence that is on the computer. Problem is...seems the BIOS won't recognize a CD drive and, of course, the OS is on a bootable CD. When I move into the Boot order in bios it is only recognizing the floppy drive and hard drive as bootable. No USB CD listed at all. As a matter of fact it doesn't seem to to recognize any USB devices at all. I could probably create a boot floppy and try and get to the CD drive that way but I only have a USB floppy drive and, as I said, it doesn't seem to recognize USB. I could probably purchase a protable floppy drive that it would boot but wonder if there's another way. Is there any way this bios (Version 1.3) can be made to recognize a CD? Thanks

Re: Stylistic LT P-600 OS Loading Weird i thought all tablet pc's came with a option to boot from cd-rom why in the heck did they remove the os that was stupid you may have another issue that you are not going to like. Certain tablet pc's esspecially older ones running windows 95,nt 4.0,98,me,2000 had to be connected to a network and a netowrk install had to happen in order for the computer to boot anything but there may be a work around. have you tried to boot from a floppy disk here is why i ask if you can get the tablet to boot from a floppy disk then all you need is a usb hub because once the disk's boot and windows 2000 start up disks detect the cd-rom drive it will start the install automaticly but yet another problem comes to mind as well your usb may be shut off from inside the bios you might want to have a look at the bios on your computer.

Re: Stylistic LT P-600 OS Loading Hi John: Thanks for the help. There is an option to boot from a network and I may have to go that route if I can't figure out something else. I don't know if it will boot from a floppy. The only floppy I have is a USB device and the system won't recognize the USB. The floppy it accepts and considers drive "A" is one with an older style connection. I may have to pick up a used one. There are a couple on ebay. Other than that...I'm at a loss. I have absolutuly no idea whey they removed the Operating system. The computer has an OEM licence sticker and identification number on it so the whole this is quite legal. Take care

Re: Stylistic LT P-600 OS Loading Has been quite awhile Im not sure if you found a solution to this problem or managed to boot from a network so I thought I would add my two cents. I have not dealt with your device in particular but I have experienced similar situations. If you are trying to boot from a CD that is attached via a pcmcia slot it will not work except on very new systems. The bios does not initialize the pcmcia slots, they usually don't start working until your operating system is loading. What I find works in many cases is to slave the drive into a regular tower and install an operating system onto it manually or install a disk image. After you switch the drive back to the original device you usually get some error messages but windows boots and then you can sort them out from safe mode. Many companies who sell surplus equipment feel they are protecting the previous owner by deleting operating systems from the hard drive. Really the data could be retrieved anyway if you were determined. I don't know why anyone would bother as I have bought several off lease computers that had all the companies stuff still on there and all their programs installed. I'm sure mundane business data and old company memos are just a gold mine for evil doers /sarcasm. Most large companies maintain their sensitive data in a central server database not on employee terminals.

I have 2 of these. And I will tell you if you format the hard drive in another machine it will give you errors, and not install correctly. Because the partitioning will be incorrect, old school hard drive metrics. There is a way to do it but it is quit involved, and a big pain. The best way is to shop ebay and get one of the docking stations for it, they are cheap now. Then you will need to make a boot floppy, because the BIOS does not support USB bootup. The dock has the NIC port on it. And the Fujitsu floppy is not the expensive now, either. I suggest you get one of the IR keyboards while you are at it. It Is A BIG PLUS. The first thing you should do, but I know its to late now. Is to contact Fujitsu. They installed these things with a hidden partition. They can guide you to reinstall the entire OS from this partition, maybe even if someone wiped it. I wish I would have done this with my first one. They also installed them with a special version of windows. I think they still sell the Windows 2K CD's for about $35.00. Anyway you should contact them they were very helpful with me. I just installed Linux on my first one, and on the second one reinstalled Windows 2K from the hidden partition, in-spite of the primary partition being wiped. For my first one, I was able to make a boot floppy that enabled the system to read a USB thumb drive (where I had the "install from network" iso) and then installed Linux over the internet. Like I said, I know it is probably to late for you, but I hope this helps others out. These are great units despite their age.

Re: Stylistic LT P-600 OS Loading Im not sure if this can help, but since I've bought one of these GREAT machines (A Stylistic P600, to be exact), and spent like three weeks in trouble before figuring out how to solve the problem of reinstalling correctly windows on it, I'd like to share my quick and easy solution. simply, I spent 9$ to buy on Ebay (here is the auction: http://tinyurl.com/d6vwjy ) one very cool Restore DVd which allowed me in 5 minutes (even less, maybe three!) to install Windows 2000 and/or XP together with EVERY driver, and additional handwriting recognition softwares. Since im not the seller, and i think this is a very open problem, I'l share the address to which I could buy the Item (BTW please note that he told me that he has a limited amount of these restore DVDs). The only thing I needed was to unscrew my Tablet hard drive and mount it into a USB external drive (this operation took 1 minute), then start the Image software, which actually copies the hard drive image on it, and voilą! Everything works from then and I'm super-happy user of XP (which seems to run reeeeeally lighting fast, as contains also many optimizations ofr this particulara device). Seller is Italian but could answer me both in English and French.

Re: Stylistic LT P-600 OS Loading @ andreajudge: Are you running XP, and what is the cpu speed and ram on your machine? Does the dvd that you bought contain everything you need to load XP, or do you need a seperate XP cd?

| I'm currently running XP with standard Pentium 3 @600 Mhz and 128 Megs or RAM (waiting for 256 Mb). It works perfectly, only few glitches when I have 3+ applications open at same time (but this is just due to RAM, and will be fixed VERY soon!). Windows 2000 runs a bit more slowly - even if I thought the exact opposite. By the way, using this CD i could try the two configurations (2000 vs XP) in few minutes. The whole procedure consist in 'burning' the working "image" of the OS onto your hard drive. This will of course cause the lost of all your data so remember to do a backup first. Then ,the new system, along with drivers and softwares is copied onto the hard disk. After that, you can mount the hard disk again into the Stylistic, and voilą! Everything works like a charm! There's also a tool useful to change license number of OS to your very own so it will become licensed after installation (BTW its not strictly necessary for everything to work, such as updates and other stuff). Only problem to me was that OS is in Italian, and you have to download language pack after installation to convert system to English (it took me half an hour, from beginning of download to ending of installation). | Re: Stylistic LT P-600 OS Loading My system has the same configuration. I want to upgrade the ram, but I'm finding it difficult to find sdram. I think I'll try out this Italian disk, I just hope the guy will be prepared to ship to South Africa and the shipping cost won't be too high. |
