Suspected digitiser issues
Hi all, I'm new to the forum... just stumbled across it while googling for answers and it's be great if anyone could help me with some suggestions.
I have an Acer C301 TPC, still within its 3 year warranty if I was in Australia, but the International warranty was only a year. Since I'm in Canada for 12 months on a work exchange, the machine is not covered by warranty. Go figure that out...
Anyway, the swivel hinge broke on the TPC. Since the warranty was not honoured here, I decided to fix it myself. I split the screen bezel open, discovered that the hinge was siezed up and had torn the screws out of the hinge mount point. Not too difficult to fix I thought, so I gave it a go myself.
I ordered the part from Acer Canada (US$10), and have spent the last few hours removing the old swivel hinge and installing the new one. It seemed to be a much more complicated job than I expected since there were several wires that must pass through the centre of the swivel joint to feed to screen. The screen data cables were tricky but not too bad since they unplug from the motherboard, but the extra wires that feed the (I presume) wifi aerial and the bezel buttons, etc had to be all undone and fed through individually.
Anyway, I eventually got it back together, but here is the problems I am having...
With everything reassembled, the mouse intermittently, but continually, jumps down into the lower right corner of the screen. It happens every 20-30 seconds or so, and usually causes the clock dialog to open.
I suspected it may be a problem with the digitiser unit, so I have unscrewed the two screws that hold the digitser in place, and it is currently resting on the flat area about thr row of function keys (ie, removed from its position in the screen bezel, but still obviously connected. With the digitiser removed from its regular position, the cursor problem goes away.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this? I can still use the stylus pen and tablet mode works fine. (all the jitter is gone too by the way... the cursor is extremely stable with the digitiser removed from the screen edge... design fault Acer?)
FWIW, my tablet has been modified with a foil shield around the digitiser unit to prevent excess EMF interference. This was done by Acer Australia in response to my compaints about tablet mode instability near the screen edge. The foil wrap was done almost from day one.
I'n curious to know if anyone else has encountered this jumping cursor issue?
Chris
