New to tablet pc and have a big problem.

I got a Fujitsu point 1600 tablet pc off of ebay. I was using MS word and I restarted its self. I turned it back on and it booted up ok but the desktop flashes and then all I get is a black screen. The pen still works on the screen but I cat see any thing. I tried to go in to safe mode but that wont work al that gives me is a flash of the taskbar and then only a green screen with safe mode on the top left and right of the screen but not the bottom like it should. The guy I got it from has no cd's for it so I cant reinstall 98 on to it. If this cannot be fixed with the 98 it has now would it work with an install of win98 from a desktop and then install the pen drivers that Fujitsu has for it on its site.

Hey Jonathan,

Sorry to read that the Tablet PC didn't reboot properly.

You might try hooking up an external monitor and see if it blanks too. Also check the online user guide for troubleshooting. This is a good pdf file with good tips in the Care portion. Make sure you learn to use the Hotpads for adjusting the display.

(1) Temperature is heavily discussed in the user guide as possible causes to troubles.

(2) battery power is another issue. Make sure the battery is fully charged.

Now, my understanding from reading the specs, the system was installed by the factory with Win98 plus pen drivers and therefore should be able to use the drivers from their website ... However, try the troubleshooting with the external monitor and battery first.

I have read the online user guide for troubleshooting and tied what it said to do but it did not work. I also tried hooking up to an external monitor and it did the same thing as the tablet. I think that I will load win98 and the drivers to fix it. Also is there a site that I can get Penx 1,7 or 2.0 so I can put that back on the tablet?

The Fujitsu support website has drivers listed.

Follow the link, select the Tablet PC -> Point -> Point 1600 and you should see a listing of the display drivers and pen drivers.

Sorry the ideas from my first post didn't work. Are you sure you checked the battery and heat?

Well a new install of 98 is not so bad could be worse. I also let the battery charge for a day in an external charge and left the tablet cool for a day with the same result. . I’ll probably do the install on Monday or Tuesday and ill let you know how it goes.

I just have one more question for you. Is there any way to get Penx 1.7 so I can put it back on the tablet or do you know any other handwriting programs like it.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay but the Hamilton Academic Decathlon team was competing today and since I'm the coach then I had the pleasure of helping them keep their spirits up throughout the competition.

You may download the drivers from the Fujitsu site. Just follow the directions by choosing the Point 1600. The PenX drivers may be downloaded at no charge.

The PenX FAQs may help you with some of your questions as well as the product description page. This pdf is the same information as the html but in an easier to read format.

Sorry for the delay i tried the new install of win98. Well it did not work. It still cant find the cdrom even withe the drivers. Then i tried to install the drivers from dos to see if it can even find the cdrom it could not find it. And like i said the guy i got it from is not helpng me much by not giving me the disks for the cdrom. I dont know what to do. I was thinking of trying to put win3.1 on cuz the floppy drive works and thensee if i can fix it from there. And also some how my config.sys got deleted, I dont know if that might be the problem.

Hey, did you buy your 1600 from a guy by the eBay name of 'blueberet72' ?

Reason I ask is that he sells a LOT of these 1600's and I just bought one too, now I'm a bit concerned. Also his speed to reply to emails and shipping are a bit annoying as well.

Hey Jonathan,

Do you have a link to the seller of this product? I'd like to see what is going on with the sale and the refusal to provide the OS. Fujitsu and Microsoft may want to know too since it gives them a bad reputation.

In terms of the Fujitsu Point 1600, I'd suggest that you call Fujitsu and see if they can send you replacement CDs based on the serial number. HP did this for me after paying approximately $16 for the shipping.

OK, this is where I get a little angry. I found a person selling these units on eBay with the following statement, "On this Tablet it's already loads Windows 98 SE with all Sevice Pack updates and All hardware driver, Microsoft pen service 2.0 and CIC penX. This O/S system software is load-in for testing system only. Since win98/Se is in this system hard-drive, I just wanted to make this clear is no software or software license come with this system "

First, this unit is not a Tablet PC. It is a tablet sized, pen enabled computer. They are not the same thing.

Second, you really better check with the person you purchased this unit from. Is this the guy's policy? If this is the same person then you are up the creek because you received an unauthorized MS Windows 98 SE copy and you should turn the guy into Microsoft. I suspect he thinks he is clear by saying it is loaded for testing purposes only. I doubt it because it sounds too slimy.

Third, try to contact Fujitsu and see if they can help you. Then let us know how things are going. I can't find drivers. Maybe they can help you.

well this is the same guy.I have been e-mailing him every day now i only got 2 responses. now its been 3 weaks and i have got nothing back from him. As for his policy thats what it is.He told me what was on the hd was all i was getting.I am goin to report him to ebay and do you realy think i should report him to microsoft.

I would talk to Microsoft piracy. His policy does not seem to equal my interpretation and therefore this is a legal issue. I can't imagine offering product without a license and if he is putting the same copy onto multiple machines then he is violating the MS license. But let MS decide if that is the case. It would be wrong for me to accuse him without knowing the full story.

I'm also sorry that he isn't answering you. I know it is possible to get wrapped up into other things (it happens to me!) but if he can't help then maybe call 1-877-372-3473 (Fujitsu sales) and ask if there is someone who can help - someone who has worked with the point 1600. You might also ask them about the licensing policy for OEM product. Since it is their product then they should know.

Sorry for the delay i did report him to ebay and still he has not responded to me. I was looking at what he has sold in the past and he has sold 17 point 1600 in the last 3 months all with out software. i also looked at the old Description and the part of it being a test system you are talking about " This O/S system software is load-in for testing system only. Since win98/Se is in this system hard-drive, I just wanted to make this clear is no software or software license come with this system " was just added.Would that hep me if i do report him to ms that he just added that to save his butt. Also do you think i should let him know that he is being a ass to a 13 that knows know better to tell him i want the disks with the tablet.
