| Uk Fujitsu Wirel-ess-less probs Evening all, Hope somebody can help. I have recently kitted up work wise with a Fujitsu-Siemens Stylistic 5 series tablet/pen thing for field data collection and GIS work (brilliant machine!). With a teeneager in the house (notebook) and home-office pc we've gone the wire-less route to save strangulation by cables. It all seems to be working bar the tablet which while boasting of having every wireless capability known to humankind, won't recognise the wireless router less than 8 cm from it's perfectly formed silver nose. The laptop with a pc-card adapter works as does the desktop pc, even the tablet works when the pc-card adapter is slotted in, but not on it's own devices. Despite having spent a small conservatory on it, I resent having to spend another £30 on an additional pc-card adapter when it should be on board already. I have explored virtually every combination of settings one could imagine! Thanks for any ideas! Jonathon |

| Model and Specifications Hi, Sorry to read about troubles. Would you mind listing the type of hardware. What is the model of the tablet? What is the model of the wireless router? What operating system (and version) are you using? What have you done to resolve matters? These will help us resolve any trouble. Let us know !

| Fujitsu wire-less probs Ok, we have: a Fujitsu-Siemens Stylistic ST5011 running XP tablet edition, the router is a Netgear ADSL ModemGateway (4-port 10/100 Mbps switch DG824m) In Hardware Profiles it lists Inter(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. which I guess is the key component. The PC-adapter card which it works with is a Netgear things too (Wireless PC Card 320bit Cardbus WG511 2.4ghz 53mbps) It's bound to be a settings, someone mentioned about turning the encryption off in the router, but it doesn't seem to be on in the first place when I look at the settings? Thanks for any help! Jonathon |

| The 5010 user guide First, I'd recommend that you update to Service Pack 2. Second, make sure that you have the wireless turned on. For example, this Acer has a hardware button that turns the wireless hardware on and off. A light on the panel shines when the wireless is on - otherwise - it is 'greyed' out. According to the online user manual for the ST5010 there is an on/off switch on the back of the slate. This guide also contains an appendix for wireless (starting on page 50 of the guide). Let me know if this helps. If not, then we'll try some other things.

| D'oh, d'oh and double-d'oh. Yes, there is a switch on the back of the slate. I feel so stupid for not looking properly and/or reading the manual. My girlfriend will so rip the fun out of me. I blame the Apple-head who helped configure our network, we looks at pc's as if they were something the cat left over from a rodent meal. On a different note, I suspect your forum will get very busy in the near future. The company I work for has just bought a fleet of tablets and they are becoming essential and necessary in the field I work in (ecology/environmental surveying) They are fantastic machines. Anyway, thank you for helping a virually blind welshman. |

| Ah - the ole switch-a-roo I'm glad it is working. Don't beat yourself up too badly either. It took me hours of reading and poking the first time I set up a Tatung Tablet PC on a wireless network. It was just a switch :whistling More important is that your company is investing in this technology. Tablet PCs are wonderful extensions of the notebook.

| Thanks! And yes, they really do feel a natural and intuitive step in computing. In my work which is almost exclusively out-doors based, it feels a real coming together of the natualistic and supremely man-made worlds (which are effectively the same anyway) Good luck! |
