A friend of mine (I think he is a friend) gave me a 3500. I accepted it (mistake 1)
It had no HDD so Boought one and thought this was the hard part.
For two weeks I have visited both MS and Toshiba support forums who helped understand the problem but gave up on me so now you know what a klutz I am!
Briefly;
)I know that the Targus 003/4 and the Toshiba PA3246u-1dvd should allow a boot from the XP CD. However getting hold of either costs a lot of money.
2) I have used the Ultimate Boot CD to get to DOS where either (depending on whether you are talking to Tosiba or MS) Xpopy T:\i386 c:\i386 /e or Xcopy t:\i386 c:\i386\/e/s should download the files needed to get the XP CD to commence setup after the boot startup.
However the Ultimate Boot CD does not seem able to access the XP CD to do this. Possibly I am doing something wrong in the 'getting tom DOS " process.
3) I have used the XP boot diskettes but it gats to disc 6 and goes to the blue screen saying error (same as XP CD after start up)
Now I do have a 6GB HDD which has been loaded with XP on this computer by the person who gave me it but it takes 45 minutes to get to the Welcome screen so it is pretty useless but can I, in some way, use this to get the I386 files? I have it in a separate USB case.
I am not an expert in computers just a user so most of these terms I have had to learn as I talked to different people.
Any help would be appreciated.
