| I bought an R20 a few weeks ago and other than the multitude of running applications they preload, not too much to complain about functionality-wise. One thing I noticed though was that the menu graphics (up top most programs with File, Edit...) coloring seemed a little off, most likely due to the shared graphics memory (see the Tecra M7 if you'd care about something like this).
Another thing to note, I recently was looking up some information about (external) eSATA drives and in a roundabout way discovered that the R20s don't have any ExpressCard ports (next generation PCMCIA port). Other laptops, even Toshiba laptops, offer this, and I was pretty surprised to find that a relatively new Tablet PC like the R20 doesn't. This isn't a huge deal, but I would've liked to know this before I purchased mine. Basically the PCMCIA port isn't as fast as the newer ExpressCard port so if you're wanting to get a eSATA card, it won't be as fast (eg for an external HD that with internal HD speeds), though still much better than firewire or usb 2.0 (the Tecra also only has PCMCIA).
Things that I like about the R20/Toshiba:
LCD Resolution (1440x900) which ends up just about right
7200 rpm drives offered (for customizable tablets)
up tp 2GB PC5300 DDR RAM offered (also for customizable tablets)
Anyway, if you have any questions about specific features, let me know, otherwise, I'd recommend the R20 or the M7. I was also looking at the M400 until the higher res monitor became unavailable.
Another thing to note, the R20s are currently on sale (10% off along with a free printer, 512 MB thumb drive and carrying case). The offer will give some deadline, but it seems like month after month, that deadline is pushed back. |
