Question problems of Fn of Toshiba portege 2000

Hi, everybody,

My portege 2000 's hotkey function failed: there's no response when I pressed "Fn" and the "Fx" together. But the Fn key is okay because the LED beside the F11 flashes when I press Fn.

Anyone can help me ? I cannot ajust the brightness of the LCD screen now.
:-(

Thanks!

Jed

Oops, missed your post.

Jed, Sorry I missed this earlier. I'm not sure what you mean by 'FX' key, are you refering to any of the other 'blue' keys? Of course you can adjust brightness with the toshiba power utility but that is slower than using a key press. If you press and hold the 'Fn' key do any of the other fn functions work? or is it just 'F2' key? If it is all the function keys then I think the Fn probably isn't working. I'd try to use some canned air to get anything stuck out the key first. You could also remove the key (I'm not sure how on the tablet) and see if anything is broken otherwise a service center maybe the only option.

All of the Fn key functions require software drivers in order to produce the desired result. If you removed this software, or used a utility to disable it, then you would lose the corresponding functionality.

Ditto if you use Ctrl-Alt-Delete, Task Manager to cancel certain applications in the Process tab. These, however, would return when you reboot.

By the way, looking at this from the other perspective, disabling unused functions offers a way to speed up your laptop, and use the RAM more efficiently.
