Wireless Network Notification

I have the check box unchecked for Show Icon when connected and Notify me when connection has limited or no connectivity, and yet I still get notified! :realmad:

How do I completly disable this feature? When I turn off the wireless card, I do not want to be told about every time I boot up. There is a indicator light that will tell me if the wireless is on or not.

LOL. You must be reading my mind !

My acer just started doing this too and I was just fussing with it. I haven't found a solution but will keep looking. Hopefully someone else has run into this and we'll get this annoyance fixed.

Ballon disable in systray

Here's a registry hack that will disable ALL baloons in the systray.

Enable/Disable Notification Area Balloon Tips

This tweak disables the annoying balloon tips that appear adjacent to the Notification area.

The [Notification Area] is on the right side of the Taskbar, adjacent to the Clock display.

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: REG_DWORD [Dword Value] // Value Name: EnableBalloonTips
Setting for Value Data: [0 = Balloon Tips Disabled / 1 = Balloon Tips Enabled]
Exit Registry and Reboot

Purpose of Wireless Network Notification

If you don't like it, you don't like it, I suppose, but there is SOME value (to some people) to having the little wireless network icon in the tray.

The little yellow wireless light shows only that you've turned it on. It doesn't:
  • Show this information:
    • Indicate whether you're wireless connection is working -- connected to the access point.
    • Theoretical maximum speed of the connection (actual speed will be about 55% of that).
    • SSID of the access point you're connected to.
    • Signal strength rating
  • Right click to be able to:
    • Repair problematic connection
    • Show status of connection
    • View available networks
    • Open network connections
    • Change xp firewall settings (not suggested u use windows firewall, but if you do...)
So, it's not as redundant as it might seem.

There is difference between the icon in the systray and the ballon that has to remind you that you are/are not connected.

If the card is off, it is because I turned it off. I do not need a ballon telling me this.

In fact, I would like the icon to not ever appear on my ever expanding systray when the wireless function is turned off and only make itself present when the wireless is turned on.
