Hi there....

I've had my Toshiba M200 for a couple of weeks and a really like it. One thing though, I've noticed some scratches on the screen due to the use of the pen. Are you using some sort of protection? specially with your kids playing around with them? I'm kind of reluctant to use the pen now since I'm afraid to scratch the screen more and more.

Cheers.

No kids, just cats (with claws). So far they haven't landed on the screen. So far I haven't scratched the screen with the pen. So, no, I'm not using any protection.

Toshiba Screen

I thought this was an important enough question to make it's own thread.

I have an older (@2 years) Toshiba Portege 3500 and have never used screen protector and my screen has held up pretty good. I also have a Fujitsu ST 4110 that require a screen protector if not you forfeit the warranty on the screen. While the protector works it is lousy for viewing.

Screen Protection

I'm using the WriteShield screen protector from pocketpctechs. There actually is a thin screen protector on the stock Toshiba screen applied by Toshiba. There has been quite a discussion about it on some other forums. I personally really like the writeshield. I feel it has a better 'feel' and reduces some glare. Although it could be my imagination. It was easy to put on and can be easily removed as it has a 'sticky' backing to adhere to your screen. I did remove the original Toshiba screen protector first but that isn't for the faint of heart, I'll post a link and you can read about the technique and decide on your own.

WriteShields

Tablet PC Talk had some nice links yesterday (Sept 1, 2004) pointing to press releases on new WriteShields for Toshiba M200 and Motion M1400.

I've had mine for a few weeks now and haven't noticed a scratch. There is one dust paraticle that I can't get out, but other than that, nothing.

Has anybody used the writeSHIELDS?
I'm wondering if they stick to the screen or if they're just adhered to it without any form of glue.

I read one of the post of tabletpcbuzz about someone who removed the protection that came from the factory. I thought it was interesting, a bit crazy also.... the person mention he got a lot clearer screen on the M200.

I've had mine for 3 weeks now and I've been finding a series of vertical lines kind of like scratches. I was worring it was from writing but today I found the answer.

The lines I found were perfectly vertical and uniform. The screen has been scratched by the keyboard. That's it, the keyboard.
When the laptop is closed being carried around in my backpack must undergo a constant rocking from me walking.... and that's what it's is.... The screen lightly touches the keys and the rocking scratched it..... interesting.

Luckyly I can only see the scratches when there there is a powerful source of light behind me, like the sun. Other than that they're invisible.

See you later.
