I wasn't aware that the 2000 was a tablet. Did you mean the M200 or do you have the 2000 model released 2002? The M200 requires a BIOS update. I'm not sure of the 2000 model but you might ask Toshiba directly.

undefined I bought an M200 and even after doing the firmware update I haven't been able to boot from CD.
I've tried endless times and nothing. Either the image of the recovery CDs is faulty or the system just wont boot from USB/CD.

By the way, I spoke to Toshiba tech support and it was the worst experience in my life. I had to call them several times over the span of 2 weeks and they're just GOOD-FOR-NOTHING. All they were able to tell me is to buy a Toshiba external CD-rom ($500). A big shame.

I would appreciate if anyone has been able to do the recovery, either from CD or from the network.

Somebody told me, there is one method, create DOS bootable start up disk (like for windows 98) with PCMCA card CD driver or USB CD driver (so that your CD ROM will be recognizable) and install windows 98, if you have this, your CD ROM will be working and you can use your recovery disks for installation.

Not a very good solution if you want to install the Recovery CDs to bring the laptop back to factory state.
The problem installing the Recovery CDs is that your CDROM needs to be bootable, regardles of the OS you have if the external unit is not bootable it wont work.

There several ways to restore without a bootable CD/DVD. This link will show how to do a network (PXE) restore. Please read the entire thread as it was an evolution on how to use the network restore.
http://tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14976

And this link is how to restore using a SD boot disk and the /base directory from the DVD copied onto the HD first.
http://tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13265

Both these methods are a little involved but once setup they work great. Of course investing in a bootable CD drive is easier ;). See the FAQ for some known bootable drives.

Following the detailed instructions I was able to successfully install the recovery CDs on my M200.

I was a bit hesitant at first because I didnt' have a recover DVD but 4 recovery Cds.

But I went ahead and putting all the files in the shared folder was good enough.
Everything worked well. The whole process took less than 20 min.

I did it! Installed the Recovery CDs over the network without buying the high priced Toshiba drive.

PXE boot restore

Congratulations, I always enjoy learning new ways to do things myself. That method of restoring works on almost all new PC's/Laptops on the market as they almost all use PXE boot. So once you have it setup you can use it for any machine. And as you said, save money in the process.

Another drive for the FAQ

Glad you had success. I'll add that model to the FAQ.
