Hi there, after much deliberation and finally seeing the M200 versus the Acer TravelMate C300, I bought the Toshiba today. First impressions - well built, superb crystal clear screen (much better than the Acer res) and seems fast enough for in-built applications. As you will probably know, getting software onto the box is a little hard given that it comes with no cd at all and the external third party CD drive has yet to arrive... First niggles - the pen seems oversensitive, so that when you hover around 4 mm over the screen, it tracks movement. Maybe this is me, but it is annoying. Maybe I can set this in the control panel? I'll look in a minute. Also, selecting icons in OneNote is quite difficult using the pen, maybe more settings in the control panel. Why have a DVD playback icon on the desktop when there is no DVD player? Anyway, I seem to remember some advice being given regarding updating the operating system. Can someone let me know the link so that I can do this... thanks. I shall shortly load MS Office and other apps and see if the pen works as I hope. Do I have to get a plug in for the nice features of PowerPoint with pen interface? Many thanks in advance, Steve

I downloaded WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe. Closed out all the applications running and then launched the exe file. The update took approximately 2.5 hours from download to reboot. There should be an icon in your system tray for Pen and Tablet Settings. One of the tabs is for the Pen. You might play with some settings and see if you find some comfort in your hovering.

Oh boy - this tablet stuff really impresses the customers! My new Toshiba now has office loaded along with my other business-essential apps and some new stuff like SketchBook Pro (which is very nice but very expensive to buy I feel) I am getting used to the pen now, and have figured out the screen rotation controls, voice control options and Microsoft Reader as well. After significant use, I am glad that I went with this model as the 14" screen would have been too big to have held properly when drawing and sketching. The resolution of the Tosh screen is definitely the way to go - stay with a smaller more appropriate size, but boost the sharpness and accuracy of curves etc... The external CDRW/DVD ROM brick that I bought (general IOMEGA model) looks ridiculous next to the slim and sleek tablet, and is waaaay to big to carry around in the case. This is a shame as of course this model has no internal CD reader, but it does display DVD movies nicely. All in all, a great model and it feels sturdy in every use so far. My kids love it too, because they can use the sketching ability to draw pictures, and as kids normally do, they've picked up the software so quickly it is worrying! I have now bought a wireless access point for the office so I can truly roam without cables. Does anyone know if the external antennas drom NetGear are as good as they claim to boost the range? I live about 1/2 mile away from the office and would like to surf the office internet connection across that distance - feasible? Steve

Line of sight To surf from that distance I'd think you'd need clear line of sight and a yagi style antenna. http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/weblog/view/wlg/448 for cheap. But it will work. Be aware that anyone between work and your home will get the signal also in that line of sight. If your not the owner of the business I'd get permission first. That is a pretty insecure connection. http://www.wi-fi.org/OpenSection/secure.asp?TID=2 I know I've war driven many times. http://www.wardriving.com/ That said it'd be fun to do! This is the antenna I built for my house to extend my range for my neighbors to get a better signal. http://www.freeantennas.com/projects...te2/index.html I also bought an Addonics pocket drive DVD/CDRW because it was USB powered and small (the size of two CD cases stacked together). It is scary how fast kids get it, I guess it's like learning a new language after all. Good Luck. Linuxmon
