Hi I have a new Gateway cx2726 tablet pc and can't get it to insert text into a word document. Excell and powerpoint work fine. The icon comes up, I tap it and the writing screen comes up, I write and hit insert and nothing shows up in the word document. I watched the tutorial and did everything they show, but it doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you referring to the TIP (Tablet Input Panel)?

Are you handwriting and the text is converted, after which you tap insert?

Do you have any macros installed within Word 2003?

No unless they are installed as part of the normal installation. When I tap insert, the TIP clears but nothing ends up in the document. It works in excell and powerpoint.

I have the same issue with a Gateway M285-E. It also affects Outlook when I set Word as the email editor. The problem seemed to creep into the software. It was sparatic for the first week growing more frequent until it wouldn't work with Word at all after a month. I have Word 2003 as well. I'm considering reloading the software. Let me know if you find a fix!

I am having the EXACT same problem.

FRESH install of Word 2003 on a BRAND NEW CX2726.

After installing Word, I ran all the Microsoft updates (for Windows, and for Office)

Using the TiP, it recognized all my text, but when I hit "Insert" the TiP box went blank, and nothing went into the document.

Any ideas?

I called Gateway Support, and they never heard of this problem, nor could they fix it. The technician told me that I should return the system to where I bought it, and exchange it for a new one.

I called back, and another tech had me do a "system restore" -- Which I did, and right from the system restore, before making any changes, updates, or installation of any software, it still will NOT insert text into "WORDPAD"

However, it WILL insert text into NOTEPAD.

I have no explanation for this! I cannot figure out what is wrong, and Gateway is no help either.

I think that I *will* return this, and buy a different tablet altogether. Too bad Dell doesn't make Tablets yet.

This is certainly strange. Notepad does not do formating whereas WordPad does fonts, styles, etc. Before returning, go ahead and try installing a 30-day trial of ritePen. See if this will insert text properly.

Incredible. I run into this same problem just after I bought the Gateway.

Well there could be lots of things.

Certain applications on tablet pc's have issues i would recommend update your copy of word and office at microsofts web page they might have a fix for it in one of there office service packs.
