Question About One Note

I just downloaded the trial version of OneNote2003. I am not familiar with all the icons yet in the toolbar. Does anyone know if there is a way to set One Note to display a one or two word description of an icon when the pointer scrolls over the icon (before left clicking on it)? It would be similar to how IE works when you place the mouse pointer over the stop, refresh, or home icons.

Thanks.

Icon hovering

On my tablet and installation of OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1, the icon description is present when I hover over the icon - and wait a second or two. I usually hear the hard drive spin and then the description appears. It isn't fast. And if I move too quickly then it doesn't appear.

At least I think this is what you are talking about .. hope I'm understanding the question.

Here is a picture.

To check the version you downloaded, go to the Help --> About Microsoft Office OneNote. You should see something like this

Possible Icon hovering bugs

That's exactly the function that doesn't work on my One Note 2003 SP1. After more diagnosing, I found out that this problem also occurs in Project 2003. However, the office XP packages (Excel, word, PowerPoint) do function properly when I hover my pointer over the icon.

I think that the problem, is related to tablets with more than one user login profile. Icon hovering works fine on all the above applications when I use my profile that i created for home usage. This is also the profile used to install the above applications.

The second profile, which I created when I am at work has the problems with icon hovering. Since i did not use this profile when I installed Project and One Note, this may be the cause. The Office XP applications work fine with both profiles.

It may be a bug with just these 2 programs. Icon hovering may only work with profiles that was used to install the application.

I wonder if there are more tablet users with the same problem.

Tool tips for toolbar icons - how to

In the profile that's failing to show the tool tips, have you made sure that tool tips are turned on in these two applications. This works the same way as in all other Office apps but may have to be set seperately because of the profile "voodoo" you have going on.

1. Right-click on any toolbar and choose "Customize..."

2. Click on the Options tab.

3. Check the box that reads: Show screen tips on toolbars

Smile That was the solution!

Thank you Mochant. That solved it. I would have never thought of right clicking on an icon to see if there was a setting.
