Physics Equations

Hi.
Since you have one, would you be willing to write up some physics, math, and engineering equations to find out how well it does with that?
I'm a physics major, and have been thinking about getting one. They seem like a good idea for writing lecture notes. Unfortunately, no local retailers have any in stock to test myself.
If you don't know any equations, there are a number of online sites that should allow you enough info to write them.
I need to know if it can do these before I'll spend all that money. If it won't do it, my existing laptop will suffice.
Thanks.
If you need something more specific, let me know, and I'll write something up, and scan it, then send by email.

Solving a physics problem using a Tablet

Hi,

The built-in Tablet PC recognizer doesn't currently recongize math equations by default. You'll need additional software. Many people use the xThink Calculator as a thinking tool, since it can recognize equations and calculate results. And down the road xThink is going to be releasing MathJournal which may do even more of what you want. I captured a screenshot of using xThink Calculator to solve a problem and uploaded it to my blog here:

Of course, there are many times when working through a problem you'll never need to actually have the Tablet recognize your work. For instance, I work through a lot of ideas using Microsoft Journal and OneNote. What tools you'll want will depend on what you want to do with them.

tablets, and physics

Loren,
Thanks.
My goal was to not so much do all my homework, and have a computer solve it for me-- although, an admittedly nice option-- but rather to just be able to save some paper, time, and have a digital copy of the notes, without having to scan everything afterwards.
I do appreciate your taking the time to demonstrate it for me.
You saved me the time of trying to find a local retailer-- of which there aren't any-- who has one in stock. It appears that I must make a 70 mile round trip drive to locate one who does have them in stock.
So, thank you.
It seems obvious to me that my time isn't quite yet, so I will be waiting for now.
If you guys ever figure out how to program high end hand written recognition into these, let me know. Definitely a good tool, but still in its infancy.

Sorry I misunderstood. If you want to keep your notes as ink, you have even more options. OneNote, GoBinder, and Journal are all great products that support ink as ink. In fact, I keep all of my engineering notes as ink--just like you are envisioning. The Tablet is simply a "better" paper.

That's fine.
I actually have not yet purchased one.
I wanted to know just how advanced the software was, prior to my doing so.
You answered my questions though, and I really appreciate your having taken the time to do so.
Again, thank you.
