Critical Updates

MS announced a MAJOR security flaw in the way windows, Office, and .NET handle .jpg files. There is a service pack for .NET (SP1) - use windows update- and then go to Office updates and get the fix for Office 2000, XP, and 2003.

Image files can now hurt you. I haven't heard of any exploits yet but give the little haxors a day and the next virus will be dangerous.

Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool

I have automatic updates enabled but didn't receive anything. I finally decided to use the Windows Update feature and received these two files

Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool (KB873374)
Download size: 214 KB, less than 1 minute
The Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool helps detect the presence of Microsoft products (other than Windows) that contain the GDI+ component. Microsoft customers can run this tool to help determine if a GDI+ security update is required. Microsoft recommends you visit the Office Update site to determine if your computer requires security updates for Office family products. Details...

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

Then after installing the GDI+ Detection Tool, there is a link provided to more information on the JPEG issue. In this document it states:
Important Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is not affected by this issue. Windows XP SP2 users only need to update Office (if installed)
