Looking for nice one :)

Dear Users of Tablet PCs and other Gurus in that topic,

i'm planning to buy a tablet pc. First, i looked around a bit, at CNet and other online review-sites, but i just could not figure out which notebook i should buy.

here are some specs the tablet pc should have:

- build in cd-rom or dvd, not extern (very important)
- convertible or "both" doesn't matter, just not only a slate
- battery lifetime should be high, centrino would be nice, but isn't so important
- weight doesn't matter much, if it's weight against battery lifetime, i'd choose battery lifetime
- the screen size should be 10'' or 12''
- processor power or ram doesn't matter much, there are just desctop application like power point to run

i looked up some tablet pcs but couldn't find what i was looking for. there are great tablet pcs with all i need, but they haven't got a dvd-rom. or there are great ablet pcs with built-in dvd, but you can't buy them anymore or they have a very low battery lifetime or whatever.

thanks for some suggestions.

regards, rob

Hi Rob,

Thank you for posting your question.

I'm not sure how you are planning to use the Tablet PC so there might be a compromise for you. The Electrovaya slate has a long lasting battery. There is also a docking station for it so that you can have access to the DVD. In addition, Tablet PCs are wireless and so you can share a desktop DVD. Maybe there is a compromise for you in those ideas.

Now, you couldn't very well use the DVD in a docking station or networked if you are trying to use the Tablet PC and DVD on a plane. In that case, you would need the DVD built into the unit - and as you've discovered - the battery life is not that good. Fortunately, it is possible to swap the batteries easily.

Let us know your ideas and maybe we can help.

well ... first, i'd like to thank you for taking the time to answer.

i'll need this tablet pc for presentations with ms power point very often.
second: as a full desctop replacement in office and on travel.

for me, the screen size doesn't matter. that means: weight is much more important than the screen size, because i'll have to travel a lot and i'd like to take the notebook with me.
that's why it is important, that the dvd is built-in, because i'd just be another thing i'll forget in a foreign country and - i think - it also would mean more weight.

so screen size should be small and, what i forgot, the keyboard shouldn't be too small and of good quality - it's a desctop replacement.

but all that would just be the dot of the i. the most important things i mentioned them in my first post: accurate battery lifetime (3 hrs up), small screen size, not too heavy, tablet pc, built-in dvd.

i hope i could answer your questions with this information.

regards and thanks again, rob

edit: what i forgot - slate is unfortunately out of question. i want to use that tablet pc as a full desctop replacement, and, as i said, i'll travel a lot in train and plane, so a keyboard is very useful :)

Almost all tablets qualify for you except for the built-in DVD, though.

But once again, you might want to check Averatec C3500 12" convertable.

Based on your answers this leaves the Acer C303, Averatec C3500 or Gateway 275XL.

h88: It looks like you deleted the first post with your answer. Do you want me to undelete it for you?
