Evan Feldman - one of the Microsoft Tablet PC team founding members - clearly states on his new blog that, "the Tablet is not dead".

Evan has a good sense of humor and intellectual perspective. It is coming through loud and clear on his blog. Go read it now.

This is an interesting blog; however, I wonder if we can spin the idea he presents on its head regarding the death of the Tablet PC stories. The claim is that the Tablet PC was designed for people in meetings and therefore it isn't for everyone. Let's change it to ... "The Tablet PC is the ultra-portable computer" ... Hmm.. that sounds nice. Now, does it stand up to any of the tests ...

(1) It is a desktop replacement.
(2) It goes beyond a typical desktop.
(3) It is mobile.
(4) It is expandable.

But let's take the weakness. Is it being marketed?

OK, now it is time to really stab this statement - and beat it - to death. :D

The Tablet PC has been heavily promoted lately. In fact, any article talking about the tablet is a good thing. What is that old saying? Oh yeah. I remember it now.

There's no such thing as bad publicity.

Therefore, any bad article is good publicity. I wonder if this can be shortened to something catchy.

Here is a quick attempt (without much thought)

Publicity discussing the tablet pc is good.
Articles about the death of the tablet pc are publicity.
Therefore, Articles about the death of the tablet pc are good.
Q.E.D.

OK, maybe you can do better. :detective

Desktop replacement, are you kidding?

These things can barley run a game from 7 years ago! And at less than 1.33 GHz and small hard drives, they could never be true desktop replacement. Hell, my desktop has 510 gigs of hard drive space (3 drives) and it's almost full!l

True, Tablet PCs are not gaming machines. Since I don't run games on my desktops either then I just don't consider it as an issue. However, in terms of the most common computers still being used ... such as ... computers in my classroom are 266 MHz and 400 MHz desktops. So, in this vein, yes, they can be desktop replacements ...

I agree. 60GB ought to be enough for most applications. If tablet pcs begin to catch on, I suspect the home networked file server will become more common as music storage seems to be what's using all the space on moot home systems. And perhaps games.

Evan is a real Jerk. I have worked with him and have also known people that have worked with him in the past. If he doesn’t get his way he whines and cry’s about it. If he still doesn’t get his way, he whines and cry’s louder, or to people higher up. I say this because you need to put his attitude in perspective when reading his propaganda. Please also do not forget that his blogs are essentially job security. He works in the Tablet PC division at Microsoft and if Tablet PC doesn’t sell, he has to look for a new job.

No. Nice try. This is not an accurate description of his blog, his job, or his work with the Tablet PC community. Evan has been a great help to the Tablet PC Community but he is not part of the Tablet PC Team.
