| Clubhouse at JFK's Terminal 4 Adds Tablet PCs NORWALK, Conn., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Virgin Atlantic is proud to unveil it's new Clubhouse at JFK's recently constructed Terminal 4. The Clubhouse is 7,000 sq ft and is positioned in a prime location, right across from Virgin Atlantic's check in counters. It cost over $3.4m to construct and is situated in a space with double height floor to ceiling glazing offering sweeping views of the terminal and the runway. Virgin Atlantic moved its JFK operation to Terminal 4 last Thursday, February 12th, and offers passengers and staff access to the newest, most efficient and technologically advanced terminal at JFK. The Clubhouse has a capacity for 150 Upper Class passengers and is open daily and from 3:30pm until 11:30pm. The lounge's main feature is a glittering waterfall which flows into a 90 ft long reflecting pool that runs along the length of the Clubhouse. The main dining area is a leather banquette which runs alongside the interior bank of the pool acting as an acoustic barrier from the main terminal. There is a full menu service available or alternatively passengers can help themselves to a range of snacks such as sandwiches, drinks or ice cream from the new Snack Bar. The Clubhouse is equipped with the very latest wireless technology throughout, and there are booths offering i-Mac computers positioned in the Business Area that are individually screened for ultimate privacy. The bar area is the main focal point of the Clubhouse and offers seating for 20 guests together with stunning views of the runway. There is also a 42" plasma screen for passengers to watch the latest news or a movie. In addition to the bar, there is also a cocktail area where passengers can sip a martini or play on one of the four Sony Playstations or watch TV. Situated in the centre of the Clubhouse, are large pearlescent screens that rise in towers. These impressive structures are illuminated at night with soft subtle colours reflecting the Manhattan skyline. Bill King, Virgin Atlantic's Senior Vice President, North America, said: "As with all our lounges, the designers have once again created a beautiful sanctuary for our passengers where they can rest in a soothing atmosphere while being offered the most up to date technology. "With the opening of this new lounge, Virgin Atlantic's Upper Class passengers now have an unrivaled journey experience from JFK to London enjoying luxuries such as complimentary limos to and from the airport, Virgin's revolutionary new Upper Class Suite, an onboard bar, and an inflight massage. "I would personally like to thank JFK IAT and the Port Authority of New York City for their help in making this such a successful project. I would also like to thank ShoP Architects for their creative vision and hard work in designing this unique and stunning Clubhouse, as well as LEHR construction for turning this design into a reality. Business Area/Technology: - There is a dedicated business area, housing 4 Apple Macintosh computers and 2 additional work areas with phones and faxes, in individually screened booths. - Wireless technology is available along with data ports throughout the Clubhouse. - Staff roam the Clubhouse with Hewlett Packard Tablet PCs (mobile notebook PCs) to check-in passengers, or access their flying club accounts etc. (For more information on the HP Tablets please see attached press sheet). Bar Area - The bar is the focal point of the Clubhouse, manned by two staff members, which seats 20 guests, with sweeping views of the runway, and a 42" Sony plasma screen. - Passengers can sit back enjoy the view, sipping on special themed blue gin cocktails provided by Bombay Sapphire. Virgin Atlantic expects to take the cocktail service onboard certain flights during the next few months. Bombay Sapphire also offer passengers a specially created book of cocktails so that they can try them at home. - The area also hosts 4 televisions (headset only) and 4 Sony playstations Restrooms and Showers - 6 bathrooms include 2 unisex shower rooms with a toilet, 2 female, 1 male and 1 men's room with urinals. - The two shower rooms are large and spacious. The overhead rainshower fixture and faucets are from Dornbracht, showcasing their high-end design and meticulous engineering. (see attached press sheet for more information) - Duravit designed and manufactured the high-quality, high-design plumbing fixtures featuring the Vero Basin, and Wall hung toilet.(see attached press sheet for more information) - Bathroom accessories are from D line - Urinals : Currently 'toto' design but by the end of March they will be changing to 'the kisses' by Bathroom Mania. When lit, they will reflect the skyline and evening light of Manhattan. - The dining area seats 40 people and runs the length of the lounge on a leather banquette. It is acoustically separated from the terminal by a water feature. - Dining options include a full dinner menu from a fully fitted kitchen, or a lighter bite from the Pret a Manger "Snack Bar" service station VIP Room - A private space for use by VIPS, or as a TV room with a 42" plasma screen and Sony play station. Snooze Room - 2 daybeds are provided for a little "R and R" prior to takeoff! Designers : SHoP architects. - A number of architects were asked to enter a pitch to design the new Clubhouse at JFK terminal 4. The architects VAA appointed are a young, local, cutting edge design agency ShoP.chosen for their understanding of the 'essence of New York', and their layered design that reflects this vision. Contractors : LEHR construction - LEHR are the second largest General Contractors in NYC, their latest projects include the flagship Yves Saint Laurent store off 5th Ave. The final choice of contractors was made on the quality of work of past projects, ability to take on such a project and cost efficiencies. Furniture - The furniture for this project has been consolidated from 5 different countries: America, Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Denmark. - Furniture is from Bernhartt (USA) Knoll (USA) B&B Italia, Frigetto, Moooi, Artifort, Driade, La Palma, Vitra - The specially dyed leathers are from America, and textiles are from the Isle of Bute (Scotland) & Denmark.
