| TSL2550 Ambient Light Sensor SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM - Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions®, Inc. (TAOS) of Plano, TX, announced today that the company will be demonstrating its award-winning ambient light sensor in Booth #650 at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF), Spring 2004, which opens today at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco. The centerpiece of the TAOS exhibit will be a new Graphical User Interface (GUI) which will demonstrate how the TAOS ambient light sensor can be integrated into notebook/tablet PCs, LCD TVs, PDAs and LCD monitors. "TAOS, Inc. is excited that a number of OEMs have already adopted the TSL2550 Ambient Light Sensor. They are using the TSL2550 to shorten the design-in cycle with digital SMBus interface, extend battery life (up to 25%), reduce eye strain, increase lamp life and automatically optimize display aesthetics in a wide range of lighting conditions," said Glenn Lee, TAOS, Inc. market specialist for strategic products. "We chose to exhibit the new GUI interface demo for the first time at IDF because this particular show is directed to exactly the right target audience for our TSL2550." The TSL2550 Ambient Light Sensor is the industry's first ambient light sensor that converts light intensity to a digital output capable of direct SMBus interface. The data provided by the TSL2550 enables the user to easily calculate the light intensity in Lux without the use of an expensive optical filter. The primary application for the TSL2550 is measuring ambient lighting conditions for controlling display backlights in portable equipment such as notebook/tablet PCs, PDAs and cell phones. As a result, battery power consumption can be minimized. The TSL2550 also can be used in a number of other applications including, but not limited to, street light control, security lighting, digital cameras, sunlight harvesting, automotive instrument clusters, projection and big screen TVs or any applications in which ambient light detection is required. The TSL2550 Ambient Light Sensor with SMBus Interface comes in 4-pin TMB and 8-pin SOIC packages and is available from TAOS, Inc. and its authorized distributors. In addition, two versions of a TSL2550 Evaluation Module -- the TSL2550-RS232 EVM and the TSL2550-PCMCIA EVM -- are available from TAOS, Inc. and its authorized distributors. About TAOS, Inc.
