Intermec to Demonstrate RFID Capabilities and Oracle Field Service Applications

Intermec to Demonstrate RFID Capabilities and Oracle Field Service Applications at Oracle AppsWorld San Diego 2004

EVERETT, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2004--Intermec Technologies Corp. today announced it will demonstrate RFID (radio frequency identification) hardware and capabilities with Oracle(R) Warehouse Management Jan. 27-28 at Oracle AppsWorld San Diego, a conference and exhibition completely dedicated to Oracle E-Business Suite strategies, business processes, and technical directions. In addition, Oracle Mobile Field Service will be demonstrated on Intermec's 700 Series Color mobile computer and CT60 Tablet PC. Question and answer sessions with Intermec product experts will be available for all attendees at Oracle AppsWorld San Diego 2004.

By embedding RFID support within the existing framework of Oracle applications, the Oracle Database and Oracle Application Server, users will significantly reduce the risk, control and costs often associated with adopting RFID technology. Users will now be able to increase functionality through the development of unique applications.

Intermec will demonstrate real-world RFID applications, including reading information on a smart-labeled pallet as it goes through a warehouse portal. An Intermec portable RFID reader, the IP3, will read and re-write data on a smart label affixed to a pallet. Attendees then will be able to see the change in data on the tag as it passes through an RFID portal equipped with an Intermec fixed reader.

Additionally, Intermec will establish the ease with which RFID capability can be given to an existing terminal through several different product combination possibilities.

"Intermec's expertise in real-world RFID makes it an important partner for Oracle," said Bronwyn Hastings, vice president, Alliance & Channels, Oracle Corp. "Together, we can provide joint customers solid RFID solutions running on a reliable infrastructure."

Oracle and Intermec also have teamed up to bring a powerful field service application to market. Oracle Mobile Field Service is a part of the Oracle E-Business Suite and is designed to allow field service organizations to automate the process of dispatching field technicians to service calls in remote locations. With Oracle's Mobile Field Service for Pocket PC, customers will be able to maintain continuous connection over GPRS/GSM networks via Intermec 700 Series mobile computer, a Microsoft Pocket PC-based device. Oracle Mobile Field Service drives profitability by closing the information gap between the enterprise and the mobile field worker.

"We look forward to demonstrating the results of our dynamic partnership at Oracle AppsWorld," said Scott Medford, Intermec vice president of global alliances. "Attendees will be able to see the latest Oracle Mobile Field Service applications that enable the real-time enterprise, as well as the newest advancements in RFID technology -- both an integral part of the Oracle/Intermec relationship."

Intermec offers an ever-expanding list radio frequency-enabled data collection devices, including wireless handheld, vehicle-mounted and stationary computer terminals, all pre-configured to be Oracle E-Business Suite compatible. Intermec wireless networks and devices not only complement Oracle applications and provide real-time data collection capabilities, but also support the 802.11 standard, ensuring security, reliability and performance.
