Motion Computing Serves Up Tablet PC `E-Menu' for Holiday Inn Restaurants

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 2004--InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has ordered more than 100 Motion Computing(R) tablet PCs to dish out an electronic menu to restaurant patrons at 11 Holiday Inn(R) Hotels and Resorts.

The "E-Menu" system takes advantage of Motion's lightweight, clipboard-sized tablet with integrated wireless capabilities and an electronic stylus, or pen, which replaces a mouse or keyboard as an input device.

Using the stylus with Motion's bright, 12.1-inch screen to point and click, diners can browse the menu items, customize selections and even place orders directly into the kitchen. The E-Menu can be updated in real time, enabling the chef to highlight specials or customize the menu depending on the time of day.

Available in both English and Spanish and normal and large text, the E-Menu allows diners to view photographs and a complete nutritional breakdown of each menu item as well as tax and gratuity calculations in multiple currencies. Once a meal order is placed, the E-Menu system provides Internet access and games for kids as well as local, hotel and travel information.

Ameranth Wireless, the project integrator, collaborated with Motion, Microsoft, Intel and Dell to develop the electronic menu system. Ameranth and IHG began gauging customer feedback to the E-Menu system in January with the opening of the first "next-generation" Holiday Inn prototype hotel in Duluth, Ga., north of Atlanta. After an initial success at the Duluth site, 10 additional Holiday Inn properties will be equipped with the E-Menu system by the end of July.

"Motion's tablets are helping Holiday Inn create a `21st Century Hotel' with cutting-edge technology," said Mark Snyder, senior vice president, brand management, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts, the Americas. "Eventually, we will be able to integrate operations systems wirelessly -- from reservations to supply chain management -- all while providing the customer with a great dining experience."

"Motion's outstanding display technology and slate design fit right in to our vision for the E-Menu concept, and the tablet has proven itself in practice," stated Keith McNally, CEO of Ameranth Wireless. "We are proud to have Motion as a strategic partner in this endeavor."

"With the design of our slate-style tablet, Motion's goal has been to enable computing applications where none existed before, so we are pleased to be the delivery platform for the E-Menu system," said Ralph Spagnola, Motion's vice president of sales.
