Hardware Players Get First Shot at Longhorn

I was jumping up and down when I read this paragraph:

The company also is expected to discuss its upcoming Windows XP Service Pack 2. While the upgrade is not due now until June or even July, Microsoft said it would automatically ship the upgrade as part of its new edition of Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. While the delay is no big deal for desktop PCs, Wilcox said Microsoft is really losing out with the Tablet PC crowd.

"The longer Microsoft takes delivering SP2, the more likely that the software vendor and its Tablet PC manufacturer makers will miss, yet again, the back-to-school buying season," Wilcox said. "OEMs take four to six weeks, minimum, to get their systems in place. They could make the holiday buying season, but the consumer market has better traction with education behind it."

Yes, MS Tablet PC Team needs to rise to this challenge and make sure that tablet manufacturers are able to ship the latest version soon. I originally posted that this looks like that might happen - and that it would be VERY good news.

Sadly, I read the original post that this article refers to and the news isn't that good. In fact, it simply points out that MS is in deep trouble and up the creek without a paddle. More lost sales. More lost opportunity. More Micropid.

Well now.. maybe the interpretations are different for some people. In IM, people are suggesting that my joy is misplaced. MS is just admitting that they are killing the sales of the tablet pc and that they are not going to actually DO anything about it.

Dang. They better fix this before it is too late. And they better start telling us what the heck is going on ... argh.

Innovation saves the day

I still say backing innovative ideas with third party apps builds the strongest base and case for Tablet PCs. Plus, get those Tablets into faculty and students' hands!!
