| Gateway shuts retail stores, 2500 jobs axed  Troubled computer maker Gateway has announced it will shut down all of its retail stores next week, eliminating 2,500 jobs. The company, based in the San Diego suburb of Poway, said its 188 stores will close on April ninth and workers will be let go as the store operations wind down. Gateway recently posted its 12th loss in 13 quarters. Officials said it is exploring other retail distribution options for its products in US and foreign markets. Gateway was founded in 1985 in Sioux City, Iowa, and has employees in North Sioux City and Sioux Falls. The company recently completed its purchase of Irvine-based eMachines Inc. for 290 million dollars and named Wayne Inouye its new chief executive.
