| Tablet PCs unwanted? The title to this article is a great question. Are Tablet PCs unwanted? The answer is very simple. No, they are not unwanted but rather they are very much wanted. Try to buy a Tablet -- and you'll discover how difficult it is to purchase one. Sales people are ridiculously ignorant of the product. They've never used one, don't own one, have never touched it, never seen it, and can't tell you anything about it. Customer: Do you sell Tablet PCs? Salesman: A table what? Customer: No, a Tablet. Salesman: Oh. Try a pharmacy. Microsoft, manufacturers, and OEMs need to quit belly-aching and start getting this matter under control. It is simple. Get the units into the hands of those who sell them. There are thousands of places to start but here is a tried and true approach. Start in a focused area and then branch out. Step One: Focus on one city for 30 days - such as New York or Los Angeles. Blitz the city with an ad campaign during this time period. Have numerous trained people in the major reselling locations and have different units available for immediate purchase. Get on the local radio, t.v., and newspaper. I'm not talking about one 3 hour class but 30 days of being ever-present and in the face and mind of the consumer. Blitz the heck out of the city. Step Two: During this 30 day blitz - have a contest to give away one free Tablet PC. No purchase necessary but the person must have "test driven" the unit with the campaign. Only one entry per person. In fact, the person can sign up for the contest directly on the Tablet as they are "driving" it. Step Three: After 30 days, follow up by announcing the winners in ads suggesting that everyone is a winner and surprise everyone who registered by providing them with a mail-in rebate or coupon for X amount of money with proof of a purchased unit. I say X amount because budgets would have to determine the amount. Step Four: Quit complaining and do something. Anything. And then let everyone know what the plan is for getting people to see, touch, and fall in love with a Tablet PC. Get out of meetings and into the minds of the consumer. Tablet PCs are very much wanted. Now, give them the Tablet PCs. Step Five: Smile. It's an inexpensive way of giving a great gift. OK. Maybe that is a little off topic from the article but I've had it on my mind. Title: Tablet PCs unwanted?
