| Another Sales Figures Story We must endure another article published for the sole purpose of ... err .. uhm ... yeah .. why was this article published? OK. Sales for the Tablet PC did not meet expectations for Acer in the summer 2003. But this is 2004. Admit it. Acer made a lot of fuss in the press five or six months ago and now the stories are still being published. Yawn. Let's get on with life. Actually, we are seeing the typical pedantic nonsense: If you repeat something enough times then people accept it as gospel. In this case, we are to believe that you shouldn't purchase a Tablet PC because no one else is buying them. Hogwash. The second generation Tablet PCs are excellent examples of hardware catching up to the OS requirements. Now, we need to add more memory on the base system and get hardware which allows faster application startup times. And for those of you who really watch the Microsoft team, you know that the third generation is always the best release. The story goes that the first release is simply tossed out there to see if there is interest. The second cleans things up based on the feedback and then the third release is meant to capture the market share. Therefore, the Tablet PC Team MUST make sure that the new upgraded OS is fantastic, and not just great. It's a tall order but they can do it. For those of you interested, the second OS release is coming in the spring/summer. The third generation of Tablet PCs were stalled with the delay of the Dothan chipset from Intel. After these are released then we'll see a sales explosion. Until then, only the smart ones are using the Tablet PCs in ways that Microsoft and the manufacturers didn't imagine. Pay attention -- and you'll see the media change their tone once Acer starts releasing sales numbers for the TravelMate C300 and Toshiba releases the M200 sales figures. These are both gorgeous machines and I suspect that sales figures will prove that people are interested in them. Eek. Time to link to the stupid story. Read it and weep. Thanks For All The Hype, Bill

| Sales 2002 Here is a story to counter these stories :shifty: In March 2003, approximately one year ago, ComputerWorld published, "Through the end of December, Hewlett-Packard Co. had a slight lead over Fujitsu Ltd. in worldwide shipments of Tablet PCs, according to research released today by IDC. All Tablet PC vendors combined had sold a total of around 72,000 units worldwide through December, IDC said. " Now, that sort of puts things in perspective.
