Microsoft Notebook: Stock quotes to grocery lists

Quote:
CHEAPER TABLETS: Microsoft's Tablet PC team was among the product groups at CES, underscoring the company's effort to expand the consumer market for the machines, building on the inroads Tablet PCs have made in specific business settings.

One trend that could help is a general decline in Tablet PC prices. Microsoft executives at the show cited examples including computer maker Acer, which has generally dropped prices for its Tablet PCs to less than $2,000. In addition, an upcoming Tablet PC from Averatec is expected to come closer to the $1,000 level than any previous Tablet PC has.

"We see the gap between the Tablet and the notebook closing," said Susan Cameron, group product manager for Microsoft's Tablet PC business unit. "It really opens up more opportunity."
