| Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition Development Kit 1.7 The Windows XP Tablet PC Edition Development Kit facilitates building ink-enabled applications for Tablet PC. The combination of software and hardware in a Tablet PC enables these methods of user interaction and allows for a rich, interactive, and productive computing experience for users. The Tablet PC platform encompasses Windows XP and its extensions that enable input and output of handwriting and speech data on a Tablet PC as well as interchange of this data with other computers. The Windows XP Tablet PC Edition Software Development Kit (SDK) enables you to build ink-enabled, pen-enabled, and speech-enabled applications and supporting hardware for the Tablet PC. | Something I haven't seen mentioned anywhere, or if it's common knowledge among everyone else, but I noticed the SDK has support for ink-enabled, penabled Web pages. One of the samples includes code for a blog website. The ASP.NET page detects if the website visitor is running a TabletPC, if so it uses an InkControl to allow handwritten blog entries, otherwise it uses the typical textbox. If only I had a cheap (as in free) host that supports the .NET Framework and is willing to install the SDK.... Keep an eye out for penabled websites, blogs, message boards, etc. But this raises an interesting question: It's difficult enough to read what most people type on a message board, how will their handwriting fair? | The plus-side is that it presents potential for ink-based, on-line games. Not that I'm an avid gamer, but just looking at the possibilities has generated a couple of my own ideas. Of course, there are the numerous on-line forms that people fill in every day. The "Subject" for the SDK sample goes through the recognition engine, which performed quite well...at least for the test messages I used to play around. I can see websites doing something similar. |

| Hey, LPH. How hard would it be to allow inking for the personal signature section? I'd really love to be able sign my name as my Signature on the posts on here, and I'm sure others would use it as well. I know I could save my signature as a graphic file and put it on the web, I just don't have a website host and it seems kind of a waste to get one just for the one file. What do you think? I'm not familiar with PHP, so I don't even know if it's possible. GeneT |
