Major IT industry investment in mobile computing over the past 10 years has led to the recent launch of new technologies including wireless networks, PDAs and most recently Tablet PCs. Manufacturers have proved to be leading advocates for the new technologies, introducing them to enhance a range of areas in the business. One such is manufacturing resource planning, where a planner can visit different departments or manufacturing centres within the organisation and use mobile tools to capture and share up to date information about the project. Retail is one of the UK's largest and most important sectors and currently makes up a sixth of the nation's economy.
The Tablet PC now looks set to be the next mobile technology to have a major impact in the manufacturing industry, with 70% of UK software developers planning to create applications over the next two years. British Manufacturers Drive IT Industry Innovation |
