Music launch delayed: Starbucks Corp. has pushed back the date for the Seattle launch of its new in-store music program.

The coffee company now plans to add music listening stations with CD-burning capabilities to 10 Seattle cafes this fall. The company had originally said the new technology would debut locally around May or June.

"We're just trying to make it right -- trying to make sure that the locations that we chose are the correct locations, that the service that we're providing is the best for our customers," said Starbucks spokeswoman Jenny Walsh.

Starbucks in March opened the Hear Music Coffeehouse in Santa Monica, Calif. There, customers can listen to music on HP tablet PCs and select songs to burn on CDs. Starbucks charges $6.99 for five songs and $1 for each additional song.

The company plans to add listening stations to 1,000 stores by the end of 2005, Walsh said. Starbucks has not named the Seattle locations that will initially receive them.

It is so silly that I'm near the Hear Music Coffeehouse and have yet to try it.
