Explaining the purpose of the product awards, Jan Hung-tze, CEO of the PC Home Group, said, "Selection of the 2003 products of the year is meant to provide consumers with a deeper understanding of new technologies, their influence on society and the trends they set in shaping our lives." Acer Inc.'s C100 tablet PC was selected as Product of the Year in recognition of the company's success in creating an excellent self-developed product, setting an example for other IT companies that have long developed by engaging in contract manufacturing of other companies' products. Acer, it should also be noted, played an instrumental part in formulating the international standards for tablet PC specifications.
