| Motion 1300: OS cannot see wireless card Hey everyone, I am hoping this is too hard. I have the M1300 as a secondary machine for demoing and testing software. From time to time I have it wiped and freshly installed by IT. THis time when it came back the wireless card was not operational. The dashboard sw says no wreless device found. Going into device mgmt shows no wireless hw hoever does show an unknown wireless controller. IT has rightfully rejected working on this since its not a standard config for our company. Hoping it was a driver issue I went to the motion website and found 2 different drivers to install (broadcom and Intel). I did not understand that but I went ahead and tried each. no change. So hre is where I confess I might have caused my own issues. When I had the tablet here in the ofc, I would shut down the wireless to avoid network problems with the wired connection. I may have given it in that state to IT. Is it therefore possible that the card is "off" and just needs to be tuned on to be recognized? I tried going into the BIOS but there is nothing there to turn it on. ANyways, I am confused and hoping someone here might have some ideas. thank you! |

| See if this thread is helpful to you. Next, try these from Motion: (1) Disable and enable wireless adapters (2) Prevent wizard from bridging (3) http://www.motioncomputing.com/kb/ar...7&cNode=5X7G2P

| Thank you, those are useful posts. I am afraid my problem is a bit more basic then that. The issue is that Windows sees NO wireless hardware. None. If I go into the Motion dashboard, it reports no wireless HW installed. Now I know that is not true - I have used wireless for years on the tablet. Like I said before I turn off wireless when not in use. Just like your excellent posts suggests, its a bad idea to have your wired and wireless operational at the same time. It definitely cause me problems at work. SO here is what I think happened to me: 1) turned off wireless weeks ago 2) changed jobs and decided good time to wipe tablet clean and re-install OS 3) gave it to IT. They use a regular version of XP tablet (not the one that comes with the tablet) to install. 4) since wireless is off, its never seen and no drivers installed, etc. I have been exchanging emails with Motion and they insist I install their version of WINXP Tablet. I realize I am the partial architect of my problem here but I do have 2 legitmiate gripes: 1) the hw has no way to turn on the wireless adapter(!). All the newer tablets I have used or seen have that. Its seems nutty not to be able to turn it on physically. Apparently they added it to the bios but I can't flash the bios becuase I don't have the windows bios flashing utility. arrrggggg... 2) and just a general gripe that I must install their version of the tablet. I generally avoid pc's that require it. I sorta thought this was out of vogue but I guess not. So, does anyone know how to flash the bios if you don't have winphlash installed? a internet search turns up winphlash for other vendors but I am not sure if they are HW specific... is there a DOS version to flash the BIOS? If I can get the BIOS flashed, I may be able to turn on the wireless card which will then allow XP Tablet to see it... thank you! |

| Re: Motion 1300: OS cannot see wireless card I also am hoping to find a way to re-activate the wi-fi on my Motion Computing LE 1600. I bought this unit on eBay. The former owner had wiped out everything and re-installed the OS. Somehow he de-activated the wi-fi and the Bluetooth in the BIOS and as a result the computer does not even recognize the wi-fi device which is clearly visible. He does not remember this nor, if any, the password required to access the BIOS and activate Bluetooth and Wi-fi. The Motion Computing service people say that the computer has to be sent to the company for repair. I understand that this can be expensive. Trying different passwords is dangerous because after a number of unsuccessfull attemps, the OS may be programmed to shut down and prevent the computer from operating. Can someone help or must I send the unit to Motion? |
