Lenovo ThinkPad X41 Photos

I've just posted some photos of the X41 on my Web site. I thought some of
you would like to get a quick look. I'll be using the Tablet for the next
several weeks and writing up a review soon.

The direct link is http://thetabletpc.net/reviews-convertibles.htm

First thoughts - I'm excited to have it. When loaded with the extended
battery, it feels a little heavy, but then, I'm not used to carrying around
a Tablet with an attached keyboard.

I like the keyboard a lot, but, in a carryover from IBM, there's no Window
key.

Wireless connected immediately and the fingerprint scanner worked better
than almost any other I've tried.

More, soon.

Re: Lenovo ThinkPad X41 Photos

Very nice, Terri. Sure brings the Lenovo entry into the Tablet PC arena to
life. Nice little unit, with a lot of accessories.

Re: Lenovo ThinkPad X41 Photos

Hi Terri, thanks for the fotos.

I've visited my local dealer in Dresden (www.cyberport.de) and they still
haven't got the Tablet in their store :-(

BTW, it's so lame not to have a Windows key, I use them a lot for fast
access to certain commands.
Wasn't there a different keystroke as a substitute?

Does the device get hot or warm when used for some hours?

How long does it work with the extended battery? I had the FSC 4010 back in

March and it surprised me with 8-10 hours of battery life with the second
battery in the DVD slot.

Re: Lenovo ThinkPad X41 Photos

I haven't done an official test yet, but it seems that battery life is
approximately 6-7 hours with wireless. I'll be using it extensively over
the next week and will be able to give you a better idea.

Stefen, regarding the Windows Keyboard Shortcut Keys, simply open Help and
Support, do a such on that phrase, and you'll find a complete list at #2 in
Full-text Search Matches. Your other questions, Terri will need to answer
after she's had some time with the Lenovo. 8-)

Might have been a contender for my $$$ except that I hate the pointing
stick... If this would've had a touchpad, I may very well have taken the
plunge. Looks like a great unit other than that though. Course, without the
touchpad, it just makes it more likely that I need to buy the new motion and
go with a slate this time around. :D

Re: Lenovo ThinkPad X41 Photos

I don't like pointing sticks either. Give me a touchpad any day.

I will say, though, that the Lenovo pointer works better than most I've
used. It was easy to navigate and the sensitivity of the pointer was a
surprise. I was actually getting around as fast, if not faster, as I do
with touchpad.

Re: Lenovo ThinkPad X41 Photos

Not that simple with the shortcuts. H&S or Support sites give me a lot of
links but none
that explains the hotkey for the Windows Key if there is none.

Way down at the bottom is the Windows Key alignment. I was thinking perhaps
you could modify (there is also information regarding creating your own hot
keys) the existing with different key usage such as the Fn key.

You can always make a shortcut containing:

C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /n,/e,/select,c:\

that, when clicked, would open the windows explorer much the same way -
single click, no right click, explore, or anything. Dual pane explorer view.

For Run, you can make a shortcut on the desktop or quick launch or anywhere,
simply by hitting the start button, hovering over the RUN command till it's
highlighted, then simply dragging it somewhere.

While it's not the perfect solutions, these at least give you single click
options to launch what you want, no right clicks or context menus or anything
to deal with.

The RUN shortcut will show the & sign in front of it - just what happens when
it's created. You can simply right click it and rename it to remove that
character.

Re: Lenovo ThinkPad X41 Photos

That's a really neat tip about Run. I never knew that.

I'm big on desktop shortcuts for things that I normally use hotkeys on the
keyboard for since I've been using tablets the last few years. :)

I like simplicity.
