Can't Select Pens to Ink in Powerpoint

I'm a new TC4400 user. When I try to use "Ink Drawing and Writing" in Powerpoint, I can't select any of the pens or the highliter to markup a slide during the slideshow. The selection remains stuck on the cursor arrow selection. Oddly, I can change the ink color. The eraser and "erase all ink on slides" are grayed out. I've googled word combinations to describe this, and performed similar searches in this forum, but no hits with solutions. Has anyone seen this problem and knows how to fix it?

Re: Can't Select Pens to Ink in Powerpoint

What version of PowerPoint are you using? I'm hoping you are using 2003.

You might check out MS site on inking and see if informaiton there helps.

Re: Can't Select Pens to Ink in Powerpoint

I am using Powerpoint 2003, and the information at the attached link is one of the places I've been. I've tried Ink Drawing and writing, Ink Annotations, and both of them together. The results are the same as my original post..

First, try a different screen resolution to see if that makes a difference. Second, I would be tempted to try a repair or uninstall and reinstall of Office to see if this changes things for you. Just make sure you have a backup

Re: Can't Select Pens to Ink in Powerpoint

Thank you for the suggestions. But, there is still no change. I tried changing the screen resolution, detect and repair, and reinstalling Office 2003. By the way, I also have Visio 2003 installed and all of the inking features DO work as advertised with this application!

Re: Can't Select Pens to Ink in Powerpoint

I found the problem! It was a setup problem with Microsoft Office 2003. It was fixed as follows:

Go to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel

SELECT Microsoft Office 2003 and SELECT Change (the Windows Installer pops up)

SELECT Add or Remove Features, SELECT Next

CHECK the box marked "Choose advanced custimization of applications", SELECT Next

EXPAND the Office Shared Features by clicking the "+" sign

SELECT the disk icon for the "Microsoft Handwriting Component"

SELECT Update

THen back out of the Control Panel

Apparently, the handwriting component "X" was selected for some reason during the software installation. Everything works as advertised now.

Hope this experience may be helpful to others.

Regards,

Greg
