The Tabletpc.cpl problem

I have read as much as I can on the forum and elsewhere about the Tabletpc.cpl problem. I tried the solutions offered without success. My conclusion is I need the file itself and then a reboot and voila all is well. One problem; the file cannot be found anywhere to download. Any friendly offers will be greatly appreciated...../c

Check to see if you have the OS in a partition on the hard drive or on a CD. Extract the file from that location. What hardware are you using? You changed file permissions to view hidden files and looked in the system32 directory? What OS version are you using?

In no specific order:
My h/drive is unpartioned
I am using Windows XP Home Edition 5.1 with SP2
Hidden files and folder show
SEARCH fails to locate *.cpl
I had to rebuild the system after I (too) could not RESCUE-bootup from my iomega ext HDD

hope that answers it all?

.pcl is for Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and only available for the manufacturer as a recover CD or in a partition. Since you are not using the Tablet PC edition, you will not have a Tablet PC Input Panel.

According to MS the Tablet Edition (and by definition upgrades) is included in SP2 I can't credit the source as of now but I will retrace my prior investigation and verify. There is certainly no Tablet Edition commercially available in this market and I can't recall seeing one elsewhere.

Late edition: I quote MS - To upgrade to Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 from older Tablet PC versions, you must download the Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). SP2 includes all of the new Tablet PC functionality as well as better protection against hackers, viruses, and worms. Please note that downloading SP2 will not make a traditional PC into a Tablet PC. Learn more about what defines a Tablet PC.

These are the key sentences. The Home edition will not be changed into the Tablet PC Edition. Tablet PC Edition is Windows XP Pro with additional Tablet PC functions.

Just in case anyone wonders: the hardware concerned is a Compaq TC1000, by definition the right hardware but seemingly only XP PRO and SP2 can turn it into a Tablet.

HP has wonderful technical support. Have you called them and asked for a CD with the Tablet PC OS? You can upgrade that to SP2.

Not in my neck of the wood they don't. My previous experience just to get my hardware working like a PC (nevermind a Tablet) again was less than satisfactory. Nothing can make my Tablet recover from an exterbal HDD. Moreover, Tablet owners suck the hind-mammary. My only option is to purchase XP PRO are re-install which is why I first looked for an easier option. Alternatively I may just sacrifice the Tablet features.

Sorry to hear that you're having difficulties. The solution is pretty simple, and you probably don't want to complicate it further by installing Windows XP Home or a new copy of XP Pro on your Tablet PC. When you call HP technical support and they should provide you with a recovery CD for the operating system. The TC1000 is out of warranty, so there may be a fee.

Here is HP's technical support page for the TC1000: Compaq tc1000 Tablet PC*-* Contact HP - HP Business Support Center

hi PowerGrip!

I just acquired a second-hand HP tc4200 and had it reformatted. Unfortunately, the "touchscreen" doesn't seem to work now and i seem to be missing the same file too. I hope you still have your tc4200 and help me by sending me the file. my email address is imay_f******.com... i hope i still hear from you.

thanks in advance!

Re: The Tabletpc.cpl problem

Wow, this topic is 2 years old LOL. I still have my TC4200 and I have all the install CDs. (OS & Utilities) What exactly do you need? If you don't have the Utilities CD for your TC4200 you should get an iso from someone. ;) Send me a pm.
