How to get symbol recognition

I spent a few minutes playing with a Toshiba m205 at a store today. I was trying to figure out how to add symbols when converting ink to text. I wrote the following symbols α β γ δ ε in Microsoft Journal. Then I "lassoed" it and tried converting to text. I got: O D nothing for gamma and delta (were highlighted) and then E. I use these symbols on a regular basis for the type of work I do. Is there a way to have these converted to text? Still have to go through Character Map? (I didn't get a chance to try that before the salesman jumped in to help and changed the OS language to greek!)

Thanks,

Rina

If you need to convert the text then you'd best go through the character map as you suggested. However, I'd recommend that you not convert text when they are your personal notes.

Did you have time to check out OneNote?

They didn't have OneNote set up. This is the only TPC they have, and most other places don't even have one on display - so much for marketing!

I was hoping to write papers by literally writing then converting to computer text. I am a researcher in the cancer field and many of the molecules and proteins have some sort of Greek letter as part of the name. Do you think OneNote may work better than Journal in this regard? If you write β on your screen and try to convert it, will it be recognized if you're using OneNote?

So you can probably tell I'm wet behind the ears regarding TPCs!

Thanks for your help.

Symbols in writing pad

There is a symbol pad available on the writing pad but I'm not sure how to modify which symbols are shown. The help text doesn't suggest a way but it's a good question to figure out an answer!

You might be able to add the symbols to the dictionary and within context the TIP will see it correctly - again - I haven't tried it.

One thing I found while snooping around my TPC, in the Tablet Input Panel, there is an option to "Recognize as..." When I hover over this, it displays "English (United Kingdom)" I don't know if it helps much, but maybe there is a language pack you can add to the TIP to force certain characters to be recognized as other symbols.

Hope this helps!
