Question Windows 2000 in Tablet PC form

Hi everyone...

I work in an emergency department and we use an electronic medical record called Healthmatics ED from A4 Health systems in Cary NC. They have offered us a tablet PC to use to Beta test the application on this type of hardware. However the hospital IS department will not allow Win XP on the network since the entire netowrk is not using active directory. (I don't understand that part of their issue)

Will Win 2K work on any of the tablet PC chassis? Will they return the digitizer and only loose the "ink" function?

Any other chassis you would reccomend for this type of work?

Thanks,
Jeff

Good morning

Hi Jeff,

This is a common question with a bit of a twist to the details.

First, a little bit of distinction is necessary for everyone. A mobile PC without Windows XP Tablet PC Edition isn't much added value and is usually not called a Tablet PC. There are plenty of companies who offer hardware with older versions of Windows but the support (lack) will be an issue. The ink functions on these machines is done with third party software.

Second, maybe you can take this opportunity to provide a few links to technical guides to the IS department.

Are they aware of the retirement of support being phased in by MS?

Thanks for the Links

Thanks for the links, I will pass them along to the IS department. I have a sad feeling that they will go un checked, much like my other suggestions. I am fairly certain they don;t like my input. I have been nudging them to allow either my palm, or my Dell Pocket PC on to the network to use this same software since the project kickoff meeting 2 yrs ago. I imagine its like me when a patient's family tells me their diagnosis and not their symptoms. No one likes to have the amatuer tell you your job. But when I look online and see all the GREAT things that IT can do for healthcare, and how they are so obstructionist.... it just makes me :censored:

So, while there are machines out there using the same form factor running Win 2K, none of the Tablet devices commonly seen out there running XP Tablet would be the same.

As far as anyone here knows, Does Win XP, "take over" the NT4 domains it interacts with?

Thanks again,
Jeff

This is the dumbest thing I have ever read about an IS dept.

being in IS, at my company, we still use NT4 domains.

XP will not and will never take over any domain since it is not a SERVER OS.

you can join the NT4 domain and interact with it as you do now with Windows 2000.
