PenX, the Application? Hi All, I have been considering one of the modern Tablet PCs for some time, but am unfortunately a big cheapskate. For the purposes of evaluation, I recently bought (off ebay) a Fujitsu Stylistic 3400. this device came preloaded with what seems a very fresh install of NT4.0, with SP4 IE, and the pen computing drivers and applications. The device has the COA sticker on the back, so I think that much is legit even though no install media was included. On the front, is the “Designed for Windows 2000 Professional” sticker. 2K being my favorite of the MS operating systems, I decided to go with that after checking Fujitsu’s site and discovering drivers for everything I thought I would need. Note: I removed the existing drive and stored it, knowing that a working NT system would be better that an inoperable 2k one. … skip past the fumbling installation of 2k with no CD… Next, I took my fresh install of 2K and loaded all the drivers, digitizer / pen, and my own 802.11b connectivity with very little problems. The audio doesn’t seem to work, but neither did it work on the NT install, I think it may be busted in hardware. I don’t care. What is bothering me is that the application PenX was not included in the driver packages downloaded from Fujitsu. The driver installations seemed pretty old school, none seemed to launch an installer to create the group c:\program files\CIC\. I have confirmed that that directory does not exist via the explorer. During my short use of the NT install, I found that some of the features are important, such as the clickable single button dialog to log on, and the keyboard that pops up at that time so a password can be entered, naturally, the ability to ink with the stylus and handwriting are pretty fundamental as well. Can anyone tell me: A) How to download an installable version of the PenX application? -or- B) If I take the stored drive and pull the c:\program files\CIC\ directory off of the NT install can I get it to work? Are there other dependencies such as dll’s in the system folder that need to go as well? For now I just have it set to “assume this user” auto log on, and I use the win2K accessibility keyboard, this keyboard seems to eat up a little more of the real-estate than the PenX one. I have searched, the web, this forum in particular, and Fujitsu’s site and all advice seems circular, the web leads me here, people asking similar questions are directed to Fujitsu, searching Fujitsu fails to unearth the application and I end up back on Google. ... later: OK, I put the orignal drive in a pc as a slave and browsed into it. it seems that the directory \program files\CIC\ has only: mousfltr.inf, mousfltr.sys, and a readme The two system files look awfully familiar from my setup of the 2000 OS. The readme mentions NT control panel items that I do not have in the 2000 setup. I guess the biggest problem is that I have no way to switch to inking mode, and consequently, no handwriting recognition. What have I done wrong?

ALLLL Righty Then! While I suspected all along there was some sort of conspiracy of all tablet (Pen Enabled Slate Computing Device) users against me, I guess I was mistaken. Some guy named Woody/Alienrat on a different group, broke conclave, and gave me the following link. It turns out that there is indeed an application called PenX which is separate from the PenX driver and not available on the Fujitsu USA site for download. Unfortunately, the folks at CIC don’t seem to have any way to accept money for their software, I suspect it is part of the licensing agreement between Fujitsu and CIC that the licensed application not be free to the public. While this goes against the grain of my moral fiber…. The first thing I wanted to do was dump a copy on my server and link to it, but that may be illegal. …The next thing I thought of was find the direct link to the file and link that. Well, my German isn’t good enough to decipher their **** ASP bull, so I guess we have to do this the hard way: Click away! http://www.fujitsu-siemens.de/support/downloads_1.html If you receive a graphic about your cookie security being too high, follow their advice and change your settings. If that was necessary, come back here after the setting change and click again. If you stay, after changing privacy settings, you get redirected to a much more generic page and navigating to where you want to be is somewhat difficult. Go on click again. http://www.fujitsu-siemens.de/support/downloads_1.html If you get to a page that looks like this you are on the right track: ![]() Fill in the check boxes as so and click next (Weiter); Your next page should be: ![]() Click the indicated link… Here is our last page: ![]() Again click the indicated link, you want the Treiber(file), not the Beschreibung(readme). The download should start. If you try all this and still doesn’t work, email me, assure me that you are not an agent of the FBI, the Bundeskriminalamt, or Bill Gates and I will email you the software, or link it for you, it’s 2.5meg. I think I have my account here set up to allow members to access my email address, if I’m mistaken, we can figure something out. Post or PM or whatever.

Re: PenX, the Application? hello if you wants to find drivers at Support - Fujitsu Siemens Computers for fujitsu tablet, type 35oo inside the little field in the top right corner. it wants the model number, but that doesn't work with older fujitsu gear. sometimes the result page is in german sometime in english, maybe it changes if you typ any word inside and press go. on the result page you will find all drivers in english for the stylistic 3500 including the rare CIC PenX 2.02 programm. witch should work on any stylistic including Stylistic LT models for windows 2000 & xp only. don't forget to take the pen driver that is at the end of the side. follow the instruction that comes with the driver very carefully or it wan't work. maybe it doesn't work anyway because you don't got a file named sas.exe witch has to have a link placed into the autostart folder of start menue of "all user" to detect the lcd screen with every start. the sas.exe comes with the stltc500_fpcutil_win2k package from the fujitsu webside. try this other fujitsu site Fujitsu Computer Systems - Support for best results. it should be the last driver/application to install. before you do a new installation of windows READ all there is in the driver packages from fujitsu. if english is not your language ask for help and use translation sites like babelfish or better prompt online translation. then install all drivers with the help of devise manager. (yes the sound does work under win xp but sometimes you have to force drivers to install or install them manual even there is no yellow sign maybe win xp installed a driver that doesn't work.) do it manualy with the wizard don't use the automatic driver search. you have to change the video diver also, the one win xp installs is not the right one. you have to force the driver its not signed. do many restoration points in win xp that way you can always go back. it looks like one has to install win xp on drive c: for all the old drivers to work. i had win 98 on the drive than put win 2000 on d:. now don't format drive c: because than the boot files will be gone and you can't boot win 2000. you have bootet into win 2000 and can now delete on drive c: windows folder and the programm folder. start the installation. if you don't wan't the fat32 file system change it in win xp after the installation one last thing, if you got it with an empty harddisk put it the hdd into another pc (you will need a adapter) and install win 98. then you go. good luck
