Heads up, parents and teachers of bright and talented students grades K through advanced undergraduates. Students can advance their learning of school subjects at home under the guidance of a top university.
Stanford University offers a computer based
e-learning Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY).
Students connect via the internet, using voice and shared whiteboard conferencing software to create a real-time interactive version of the EPGY lecture environment. The virtual classroom gives students a robust electronic forum in which they can interact with instructors and other students. These sessions are mandatory for the English courses and are strongly encouraged for other EPGY courses. Students who want to work more intensively with an instructor, one-on-one, or in a small group, are also encouraged (bold added) to attend virtual classroom sessions.
It looks like an individual student can initiate participation in this program.
Over 50,000 students from 35 countries have participated. It operates 12 months a year with special summer programs.
This program is an ongoing research project at Stanford University dedicated to developing computer-based multimedia courses in
Mathematics, Physics, English, Computer Programming and other subjects, and making these available to students of high ability.
