The
MIT Center for Collective Intelligence (CCI) opens officially on October 13, 2006.
It
has already set an ambitious goal to understand how to harness the power of large numbers of people—connected together through Internet and other technologies —to better solve a range of business, scientific, and societal problems.

Sounds like group-think has gone high tech, that is, decision by committee with PCs. I'm old enough to have met people who survived such thinking when it over ran Russia in 1917, Europe in the 1930s and 1940s, and China in 1947. Perhaps you also have heard horror stories from those movements.
Given the MIT venue, perhaps it's worth monitoring this new effort for collective intelligence anyway. I wonder what lessons they take from history to organize their effort?
