Intel Menlow UMPC Prototype

Josh Bancroft, social media evangelist for Intel Software Network, offers a video of the new Intel Menlow UMPC prototype demoed at Intel Developer Forum on April 18th in Beijing.

,,, a brand new second generation Ultra Mobile PC prototype, codenamed Menlow. This is the follow-up to the MID Linux based devices they have been showing, and is supposed to be out in 2008.

It runs at about 2 watts of power consumption, delivering the performance of a Pentium M. The case is smaller than current generation UMPCs, and has a slide-out keyboard, touchscreen, and expected battery life of 4 to 6 hours.

Intel expects UMPCs to hold 10% of the market by 2010, and higher as it releases yet smaller units on newer platforms with 10 to 12 hours of battary life.

Thanks, Rob, for pointing to Josh's post. For those who do not already do so, Rob Bushway and friends offer an insightful conversation about mobile PCs worth monitoring regularly. Educators and home schoolers will find them sympathetic, yet realistic, especially about new wireless developments that increase learning efficiencies.
