Problems installing .NET Visual Studio on tabletPC (HP type)

Seems that the install process goes through fine, but I am not able to create
new C# projects. It says the project file "csproj" is missing, or something
like that. I can--however--create C++ prjects. You go figure....

Just to test the installtion package, I installed on a regular "clean" type
PC workstation. The installation went fine and I could create new C#
projects.

Am I missing something for TablePC install. Are there any special .NET
components that must be installed in order to develop in C#?

Thanks,

Larry

Re: Problems installing .NET Visual Studio on tabletPC (HP type)

This is pre-coffee, but do you have .NET 1.1 installed? You can check in
Add or Remove Programs, where you should find a listing of "Microsoft .NET
Framework 1.1". If it isn't exactly that, you don't have the current
version. Additionally, there is Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hoftix
(KB886903), which you need.

Re: Problems installing .NET Visual Studio on tabletPC (HP type)

I do already have Framework 1.1 installed, as well as the hotfix package.

Re: Problems installing .NET Visual Studio on tabletPC (HP type)

That's good. Make sure your AV program is totally shut down, and all other
normal programs are closed before attempting the installation. If you're
running Norton (Symantec) they don't shut down from the Systray icon, only
"exit" that icon.

Re: Problems installing .NET Visual Studio on tabletPC (HP type)

Chris hi, I did silence my AV and did the install--but am am having the same
problem--but I can tell you exactly what the Microsoft Development
Environment Message Box says, as follows:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The application for project 'c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
2003\VC#\#Wizards\DefaultWinExe.csproj' is not installed.

Make sure the application for the project type (.csproj) is installed."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chris, hopefully that gives you a better clue. As before, I cannot create a
C# project.

And again, many thanks for your hanging in there. Your help is being very
appreciated.

Larry

Chris, I am also noting as before that I can create C++ projects (MFC
Application), Setup and Deployment Projects--no problem, but still having a
problem with C#, VB and J# projects.

Darn. I'm not a programmer, so don't run those programs. Perhaps I can
persuade Tablet MVP Fritz Switzer to give this a go and see what he can come
up with for you. 8-) We'll work on it.

Re: Problems installing .NET Visual Studio on tabletPC (HP type)

Thanks Chris. Also, as I said in my very first message, the installation
works fine on a regular worksation PC. I hope that comment doesn't lead
anyone in the wrong direction.

My best,

Larry

Re: Problems installing .NET Visual Studio on tabletPC (HP type)

Larry,

A Google search of your problem turned up these two possible solutions.

1. Re-install the framework.
2. Do a Repair of the Visual Studio.

Here is a thread.....

Have the exact same problem with VS2003 on Windows XP sp2 (tablet). And
it's the same for all project types.

Re-installing the framework did the trick.

You may drop into microsoft.public.vsnet.general with the question also. A
couple posts said a VS Repair fixed the problem.

Hope this helps,

Fritz

Re: Problems installing .NET Visual Studio on tabletPC (HP type)

Chris,

The problem is solved!!!

Per Fritz's suggestion, I tried first to run VS repair and the problem
persisted, but then I removed Framework 1.1 as well as the 1.1 hotfix. I
then reinstalled Framework 1.1--and it all worked! I can now create C#
projects on my TabletPC.

But of course once I install the hotfix, we will be back to where we
started; I hope not....

So many, many gazillion--multitasking--THANKS!

(I will let Fritz know, of course.)

My bestset,

Larry
