Wacom Tablet is not compatible with Microsoft Ink

I have a question concerning WACOM Tablet driver. If I install Microsoft
Tablet PC SDK 1.7 and next WCOM driver Version 4.95-6 during the installation
of driver I get the message” You have the Tablet PC SDK installed. Would you
like the Virtual HID Driver installed? This is needed for Tablet PC
Development.” If I press ok the installation continue and the pen pressure
sensitivity function fine. If I do the installation of Ms SDK basing on the
merge modules (found at “Program Files\Microsoft Tablet PC Platform
SDK\msm”), during the driver installation phase I don’t get the prior magic
message and the pen pressure still not active. I ‘m wondering what is the
check up done by the driver setup (Registry?, File?,…) to detect the SDK of
Microsoft.

I’m actually using Windows XP SP2 system. Here is what I’m installing
Tablet PC SDK 1.7:

RE: Wacom Tablet is not compatible with Microsoft Ink

Hi weter,

this behavior seems to be intended by Wacom, thus their installer checks for
existence of the SDK - not for existence of the merge module.

According to their FAQ on the download site, they only support this driver
on XP Tablet PC Edition. On desktop machines they only support it for
development purposes (i.e. on machines that have the SDK installed).

From their site:
"Q: Can I use this driver to get the Tablet PC's Ink feature with a standard
Wacom tablet on a desktop system?

A: No, the Ink Feature requires a Tablet PC. Note for developers: This
driver will support Ink on a desktop system that has the Tablet PC SDK
installed. The Tablet PC SDK must be installed prior to installing the
Penabled driver. Note that the cursor will not move unless WispTis.exe (the
Microsoft Tablet PC Platform Component) is running. If it is not, you can
launch it from the Start->Run dialog. The purpose of this type of
installation is for those doing Tablet PC application development. If you are
not running Windows XP Tablet Edition and you do not have the Tablet PC SDK
installed you should not install this driver. "

Btw, it seems like Wacom has changed this strategy with the introduction of
their Vista drivers. Those appear to be supported on desktop PCs running
Windows Vista.

Thanks,
