Making my desktop a Windows XP Tablet PC Edition environment!

Hi guys!
I need to start developing Tablet PC software. I got some demos and stuff. I
was wondering if I can make my desktop kida of emulating a tablet pc.
Is there a way to install teh MS windows xp tablet edition in my win xp pro ?

It would be muche easier if it was like Pocket PC that uses a emulator .

Thanks

Yes, just install the Tablet PC SDK 1.7 - Though the "emulation" is not
perfect. In particular, some concurrency issues will not come to the
fore if you run a Tablet PC application on an XP desktop machine.
(Don't know about Vista: perhaps Vista would be a better
approximation to a Tablet PC?).

Regards,
Christian

Or if you could install the OS in a virtual machine. But I guess that
isn't really an option, according to a 6 Apr 2004 thread called " XP
Tablet OS in VMware virtual machine" in
microsoft.public.windows.tabletpc.

Re: Making my desktop a Windows XP Tablet PC Edition environment!

The short answer is yes, you can install the Tablet PC Edition on your
workstation. However, you would need access to it from MSDN since that is
the only way to get a standalone installation.

If you are willing and able to move to Vista, it has the Tablet PC
components in it already. It's the same OS regardless of whether it's on a
tablet or workstation.

There will be some differences however. If you're using a mouse to simulate
a stylus, then you will not get the high resolution and pressure-sensitive
capabilities present in a digitizer. You can, however, get an external Wacom
digitizer.

If you just want to develop Tablet PC applications on Windows XP without
using the input panel, Windows Journal, and the other components that are
only installed in XP Tablet Edition, you can of course just get the Tablet
PC SDK 1.7 and the recognizers. I've provided links to the necessary
software below.

Tablet PC SDK 1.7

Tablet PC Recognizers (not necessary on Vista)

On the other hand, if a standalone install for XP Tablet PC is
available from MSDN, my hunch is that it will work. And if Vista is
close enough, Microsoft says Vista Ultimate will work in a virtual
machine.
