| The Dell Latitude XT2 A new blog entry has been added: The Dell Latitude XT2 Quote:
I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. Dell seems to always be behind on Tablet PC technology. The release of the XT was a great idea - two or three years ago. However, most of us have moved on to lighter and more powerful Mobile PCs. Maybe this is why Crave's crack about a Tablet PC convertible is so sad. A convertible Tablet PC was the right thing to manufacture a year or two ago, but the real technology is in the slate. For example, I just purchased a new slate from TabletKiosk. Convertibles are just too heavy and I do not want a keyboard. And much to people's surprise, I can write faster than I can type. Yes, I can type very fast. Once more, editing is also easier with a slate. Basically, once the TIP is trained - all is well without the keyboard.
Regardless of my opinion, Dell looks to improve the Tablet PC and that is better than just giving up.
Rob nicely summarized the important specifications:- less than 3.5 lbs
- 12.1 WXGA
- Possible integrated optical drive
- Intel Montevina
- ULV and LV CPUs
- UMA graphics to support Aero
- Ports and slots: VGA, RJ45, 1394, 2 USB, eSATA, audio x2, ExpressCard 34, and SDHC
- TPM, Smart Card reader, Contactless Smart Card, and fingerprint option
- XT2 Media base
Hopefully Dell will also release a slate.
