Layne, Loren and I have been having fun playing with the Way Back Machine this morning. We read through pages of when we'd write about motherboard, CPU and memory module availability and pricing changes. The content has changed somewhat since what we wrote in 1996 because our jobs have changed, yet it really is as much fun as it was in the beginning.

Earlier in the week Layne and I had a discussion about how Whatisnew is a brain-dump for me. When I need to search for something that I've read about before, I search whatisnew.com first. It has become not only a way to communicate with others, but an archive of things that I read about, am learning about, or want to learn more about.
Today, we separate topics onto many different websites -- we have over 60 domains in the Tux Reports Network. The vision was always to centralize these through whatisnew.com. I'm resisting. :) I want it to stay my "brain". Layne wants to move forward to the next stage, expand topics. The lesson that I learned long ago is that Layne is usually right about these things. It's time to move forward. But the lesson Layne has learned from me is that we should make the changes when we have enough time to complete them end-to-end. You've probably noticed that the format has changed several times over these these last couple of weeks. We're experimenting. Over Layne's next vacation time (June) we'll probably change it to the new design. In the meantime, thank you for your understanding.
