PCWorld is reporting that Fujitsu will be offering flash-based PCs in Japan and South Korea. Sorry nothing for the US market yet.
According to PCWord, some of the advantages of flash drives over spinning drives is slightly longer battery life, a little less weight, and faster boot times. I imagine durability fits in here somewhere too since there are no moving parts. The downside is the extra cost, which can add $1,335 for a 32G-byte disk. In some cases, I think it's worth it. Down the road as prices lower, I imagine we'll see flash in more and more devices.
The PCWord article also mentions that Fujitsu is announcing the next in its series of small Lifebook Tablets; it already sells the small 1510. The new Tablet will called the FMV-P8230 and will be available in mid-November. It'll have an 8.9 inch display (1280x768) and an Intel Core Solo processor (U1400, 1.2GHz), 256MB SDRAM, 30GB hard drive, 1 gig LAN connection. Here's a link to the official announcement. Since it's in Japanese, I'm guessing that the P8230 will initially only be available in Japan.
