Over the last couple of years, we've watched the interest and adoption of Tablet PCs by students, faculty and staff grow. This year I get to attend Educause, one of the largest higher education conferences. Educause has a track for emerging technologies, poster sessions that highlight Tablet PC software applications, and more. Here are a few things that I've found interesting so far.
Engaging Students and Imoproving Learning with the Tablet PC (Tuesday, October 10, 2006; 2:15PM - 3:05PM) - Workshop
The First Five Years of a Student Notebook Requirement: What have we learned? (Thursday, October 12, 2006; 8:10AM - 9AM) - College of Mount Saint Joseph
Notebook Computers Empower Students' Learning Mobility (Wednesday October 11, 2006; 4:55PM - 6:10PM) - National University of Singapore discussing 70% of 35,000 students using mobile PCs.
Boosting your Blackboard - Includes information about
Horizon Wimba (acquired Silicon Chalk last year) integrated with Blackboard.
Using DyKnow Vision to Teach Economics to Middle Schoolers (Wednesday, Oct 11, 2006; 4:55PM - 6:10PM) - Mary Dixon presents how DePaw University worked with middle school to teach basic economics.
I also want to go to a session on SMS, peer-to-peer application,
podcasting classroom lectures, one on teaching through games, gap between textbooks and online media, some corporate sessions, and many more sessions.
My main interest is talking with software vendors and people from schools already using Tablet PCs or considering them. Are you attending Educause?
