Post iPhone 1.1.1 update hits like a brick

Lots of online chatter about problems with updating iPhones to the latest firmware.
Because Apple has been talking about trying to break unlocked phones and third-party apps, I've decided to sit this update out for awhile. It's not that I've tried installing any of these apps on my iPhone, it's just that when a company starts focusing on things I'm not interested in--such as breaking "breaking" softare--I figure it's best if they prove to me that they aren't going to unintentionally break what I'm most interested in--and that's a working phone.
Robert Scoble says his son's phone isn't working now.
Josh Bancroft is having problems too.
Ugh.
Update: The iPhone locking/unlockng/3rd party apps tug-of-war is why Apple is Apple. As a developer I haven't forgotten it. As a consumer I was holding out hope.
Over the years I see companies shoot themselves in the foot to maintain the market the way they want it to be. Often because the market fits their current business scale. Small businesses do this a lot. Over the years AMD spent many bullets. Apple can't seem to shake the habit either. So be it. When doing business with companies like these you have to remember to respect the power of the arbitrary decision. It rules. It's king. It's the cost of doing business. At any time it can hurt. At any time it can be a blessing. You have to be willing to ride the roller coaster and say "Thank you." Getting upset isn't going to solve anything. Nor get your way. Nor make you feel any better. It is what it is. And that's why I do what I do. A handful can thrive in a scale-limited business. Some are good at it. I think too big. I want to do too much for its lmits. I want to help too many people for its boundaries. Today I'm reminded of what I've already learned.
Update: I took a big gulp and updated my iPhone. I did hit an error message when synching, but other than that everything went OK. Whew. I really like the fact that iTunes is now on the device. So what about a radio station now :-)
