Netflix
Darin Brown of Avenue A Razorfish describes how they've been working with Silverlight and how the collaboration between developers and designers is unprecidented. Neil from Netflix is describing how with this launch it's able to deliver the DVD across the internet. They expect to be able to deliver 720p eventually. The real time delivery allows the movies to start fast and actually surf multiple movies to decide what they want to watch.
The Untouchables cached in 2 seconds and is now playing. Darin is showing how there is chapter control, like a DVD. Plus they have a user rating system, more movie information, similar movies & play those clips, shared viewing.
They used Expressions Suite, AJAX, and other technologies and built the demo 3 weeks ago. Very quick!
Now, they are demonstrating on an Apple Mac in Firefox. In a few seconds Darin has The Hunt for Red October playing, goes to a buddy list and they start sharing the movie with the PC. Cool feature of extending the home theater. There is an integrating IM too, so can chat with the person you're sharing the movie and it is overlayed onto the movie in a transparent box, top right corner.
